The company is building technology that supports patient intake, clinical workflows, member experience, and future AI-enabled care operations.

Position Summary

Better U is seeking a part-time Software/Systems Engineer with 1–3 years of professional experience who can troubleshoot technical issues, understand system architecture, and deliver practical solutions across web and mobile environments. This role is best suited for someone who can work independently, use AI development tools responsibly, and contribute to production-ready software with sound judgment and attention to quality.

What You’ll Do

• Build, test, deploy, and improve application features across web and mobile systems.
• Support system design for APIs, data models, authentication flows, background jobs, and third-party integrations.
• Develop and maintain web interfaces using React and TypeScript.
• Contribute to native iOS development in Swift and Xcode.
• Debug issues across the stack using logs, traces, database analysis, and development tools.
• Integrate external APIs and help maintain internal services using REST and/or GraphQL.
• Use AI coding tools to accelerate development while reviewing output carefully for correctness, security, and maintainability.
• Communicate progress, tradeoffs, and technical decisions clearly with the team.

Required Qualifications

• 1–3 years of professional software engineering or systems engineering experience.
• Experience contributing to production software used by real users.
• Working knowledge of modern web development, including JavaScript or TypeScript and React.
• Familiarity with debugging application, API, and data flow issues in a structured way.
• Exposure to system design concepts such as APIs, data models, authentication, or integrations.
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools in a professional or production setting.
• Ability to learn new tools, APIs, and codebases with limited supervision.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Swift and native iOS development.
• Experience working in startups, healthcare technology, or regulated environments.
• Experience reviewing generated code and improving reliability, readability, and performance.
• Interest in systems architecture and scalable application design.

Classification and Schedule

This is a part-time, non-exempt position paid on an hourly basis at $35.00–$40.00 per hour. Over time, meal periods, rest breaks, and other wage-and-hour requirements apply in accordance with California law.
