Why this role is exciting

As a Senior Software Engineer, Connectivity, you will help design and improve the networking infrastructure that powers remote driving. The Connectivity team is responsible for the low-latency video streaming and real-time data transport systems connecting vehicles and telestations across cellular and satellite networks. This is a hands-on engineering role where reliability, performance, and safety are critical every day. Your work will directly influence the quality and responsiveness of the remote driving experience. You’ll work on distributed systems with strict latency requirements, validate solutions on advanced hardware platforms, and use production data to investigate incidents, optimize performance, and continuously evolve our network stack.

What you’ll be driving

  • Develop, optimize, and maintain a high-performance network stack responsible for transporting video, audio, telemetry, and control data between vehicles and telestations, with a focus on maintainability, efficiency, and clarity
  • Integrate Vay’s networking stack into multiple hardware and software target environments
  • Extend and support network testing environments and CI infrastructure
  • Profile and optimize system-level performance
  • Investigate incidents from production environments and implement fixes and improvements

What we’re looking for

  • Strong proficiency in modern C++ (C++17 or newer), especially within high-performance and multi-threaded applications
  • Experience working in Linux-based environments
  • Solid understanding of networking concepts and protocols such as TCP andUDP
  • Ability to analyze, troubleshoot, and optimize complex systems
  • Strong problem-solving capabilities and research-oriented thinking
  • Experience working with distributed systems
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Nice to have

  • Understanding of networking and wireless technologies including LTE/5G, WiFi, Starlink, and experience using tools like Wireshark for network traffic analysis
  • Hands-on experience with streaming protocols such as RTP, RTCP, RTMP, and SRT, as well as media frameworks like GStreamer, FFmpeg, or Direct Show
  • Familiarity with congestion control algorithms and network simulation environments
  • Experience with build and deployment tooling such as CMake, Docker, or Yocto, along with scripting languages including Python orLua
  • Experience in embedded or real-time systems development, including modem configuration using AT commands
  • Background in debugging and performance analysis using tools such as perf, perfetto, and graphical tools like ImGui
