Backend Developer — AI Data Services

About The Role

What if your C# expertise could directly shape the infrastructure powering next-generation AI? We're looking for a seasoned C# engineer to build and optimize the data pipelines, annotation tooling, and evaluation systems that leading AI labs depend on to train and improve their models.

This is a fully remote contract role working on real production systems — not toy projects. You'll collaborate with data, research, and engineering teams at the frontier of AI development, solving hard infrastructure problems that have a direct impact on how the world's most advanced models are built.

  • Organization: Alignerr
  • Type: Hourly Contract
  • Location: Remote
  • Commitment: 20–40 hours/week

What You'll Do

  • Design, build, and optimize high-performance C# systems supporting AI data pipelines and model evaluation workflows
  • Develop full-stack tooling and backend services for large-scale data annotation, validation, and quality control
  • Improve reliability, performance, and correctness across existing C# codebases
  • Collaborate closely with data, research, and engineering teams to accelerate model training and evaluation workflows
  • Identify bottlenecks and edge cases in data and system behavior — then implement scalable, production-ready fixes
  • Participate in synchronous design reviews to iterate on architecture and implementation decisions

Who You Are

  • Native or fluent English speaker with clear written and verbal communication skills
  • Full-stack developer with a strong systems programming foundation and 5+ years of professional C# experience
  • Skilled in data modeling and database access — including ORM frameworks and micro-ORMs for high-performance SQL interactions
  • Experienced building secure, well-documented APIs and endpoints for data access and manipulation
  • Able to commit reliably to 20–40 hours per week on an ongoing basis
  • Self-directed and comfortable working asynchronously across a remote-first environment

Nice to Have

  • Prior experience with data annotation platforms, data quality systems, or model evaluation pipelines
  • Familiarity with AI/ML workflows, model training infrastructure, or benchmarking systems
  • Experience with distributed systems, developer tooling, or high-throughput data processing

Why Join Us

  • Work directly with leading AI research labs on production systems that matter
  • Fully remote and flexible — structure your work around your schedule
  • Freelance autonomy with the substance of meaningful, technically challenging work
  • Contribute to infrastructure that shapes how next-generation AI models are built and evaluated
  • Potential for ongoing work and contract extension as projects grow and evolve
