Senior Mechanical Engineer, Miniaturized Sensing Platforms
Indexed description
The Team
The Diagnostics team develops next-generation sensing technologies for real-time molecular monitoring in living systems. We bring together engineers, chemists, biologists, and translational scientists to create wearable and implantable platforms that enable high-impact applications in healthcare, therapeutics, and disease monitoring.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the design and development of miniaturized sensing systems for wearable and implantable medical devices. This person will play a critical role in translating early-stage prototypes into robust, manufacturable products by driving the mechanical design of housings, connectors, enclosures, microdevice assemblies, and packaging solutions.
This is a highly cross-functional role that sits at the intersection of engineering, biology, materials science, and product development. The engineer will work closely with scientists and external manufacturing partners to develop compact, high-performance sensing systems that can operate reliably in demanding biological environments.
What You'll Do
- Lead the mechanical design and development of wearable, implantable, and miniaturized sensing platforms for biomedical applications
- Design and prototype components, connectors, enclosures, fixtures, and packaging solutions for sensor systems and associated electronics
- Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to integrate mechanical, electrical, biological, and materials requirements into a manufacturable product
- Collaborate with external vendors and manufacturing partners to source, fabricate, and refine high-precision components and assemblies
- Conduct prototyping, testing, failure analysis, and design optimization to improve reliability, manufacturability, and long-term device performance
- PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related discipline
- At minimum 2+ years of professional experience
- Strong industrial experience in medical device development, preferably involving wearable devices, implantable systems, or miniaturized sensing technologies
- Expertise in CAD tools such as SolidWorks, Creo, or Fusion 360 and experience designing precision mechanical systems
- Experience with medical-grade materials, hydrogels, soft materials, connectors, packaging, and biocompatible assemblies
- Strong communication skills and experience working with external vendors, contract manufacturers, and multidisciplinary technical teams
This position may be eligible to participate in our discretionary annual performance bonus program. Bonus eligibility and targets are determined in accordance with our total rewards philosophy and may vary by role.
