About the Company
Sparrow partners with credit unions to automate and modernize how they acquire and deepen
member relationships. We’ve built the first marketing and engagement platform purpose-built for credit unions replacing generic systems like HubSpot and Salesforce with infrastructure
designed specifically for the financial services ecosystem.
With 150+ financial institution customers and rapidly expanding across lending and digital
banking integrations, Sparrow is transforming how community financial institutions grow -
empowering them to build stronger, more personal member relationships through intelligent,
data-driven marketing.
Since 2020, Sparrow has achieved triple-digit annual revenue growth and maintained
profitability for over 16 consecutive months, establishing itself as one of the fastest-growing,
relationship-driven fintechs in the country.
Why Americans Need Credit Unions and Why Credit Unions Need Our Help
Credit unions are critical to the health of the U.S. financial system. As member-owned,
not-for-profit institutions, they exist to serve people, not shareholders. This structure allowscredit unions to offer lower fees, better loan terms, and more transparent financial
products all while remaining deeply rooted in the communities they serve. Many reinvest
directly into local economies, support small businesses, and build long-term relationships with
members that extend well beyond a single transaction.
Today, credit unions are underrepresented in mainstream financial awareness. Many Americans
are totally unaware of the advantages credit unions offer or even what a credit union is. Credit
unions are slowly losing the fight with large national banks and fintechs that invest heavily in
advertising, digital experiences, and personalized marketing and many of them remain
constrained by legacy systems never designed for their member-owned operating model.
Without better technology, even the strongest member-first institutions struggle to grow, engage younger generations, and clearly communicate their value.
This is where Sparrow comes in. We help credit unions modernize how they reach,
understand, and support their members, without compromising trust or mission. By helping
credit unions better understand their members, personalize outreach, and act on real financial
needs, Sparrow enables them to strengthen community ties, deepen trust, and continue
delivering member-first financial services at scale.
About the Role
The Senior Software Full-Stack Engineer will work closely with the CTO and Head of Product as
part of a lean engineering team of three on Sparrow’s flagship, banking-focused CRM platform,
Crest.
In this role, you will be deeply involved in understanding product and feature requirements,
authoring and executing technical design documents, and implementing high-quality solutions in a highly collaborative environment. You’ll work across the frontend, backend, or full stack
depending on business priorities, and you’ll be an active participant in planning sessions and
technical decision-making.
This is a highly product-oriented engineering role. Beyond determining how something
should be built, you will be expected to engage critically with why it should be built—evaluating
tradeoffs through the lens of customer value, product fit, and long-term platform health. Your
perspective will help ensure we are building the right solutions for credit unions and their end
users.
As a senior engineer, you’ll have meaningful influence over:
● Technical architecture and system design
● Team processes and engineering culture
● Quality, reliability, and maintainability of the codebase
You’ll contribute to both greenfield initiatives and quality-of-life improvements for our
growing base of credit union customers. Sparrow values strong ideas over hierarchy—this role
provides a real platform for product and technical ideation, where the best ideas win.
What You’ll Do
Full-Stack Development
● Create seamless, user-friendly interfaces using TypeScript, React, and modern
frontend tooling.
● Design and implement scalable, secure backend APIs and services using Express and OpenSearch.
● Design and build cloud-based services leveraging AWS infrastructure
Implementation Planning
● Be involved in planning discussion to deliver feature sets that balance business
priorities, user experience, and long-term technical sustainability.
Iterative Review & Collaboration
● Actively contribute to architectural discussions, design reviews, and code reviews,
bringing a thoughtful and opinionated engineering perspective.
End-to-End Ownership
● Own features from concept through delivery, including design, development, testing,
deployment, configuration, and documentation, ensuring high-quality outcomes that
meet business requirements.
Code Quality & Standards
● Write clean, testable, and maintainable frontend and backend code.
● Help drive consistency and best practices across multiple codebases and development
workflows.
About You
● You have 5+ years of professional experience building and operating production
software across the stack, with strong experience in TypeScript, React, and Node.js.
● You’ve led, owned, and shipped practical features that solve real problems for real
end users, and you take pride in delivering work that meaningfully improves how
customers operate day to day.
● You thrive in high-impact, high-visibility roles on small teams, where your
contributions directly influence product direction, customer outcomes, and company
growth.
● You’re excited to make meaningful contributions from day one, taking ownership of
production systems rather than working in narrowly scoped or abstract roles.
● You’re motivated by accelerated professional growth, actively seeking responsibility,
ambiguity, and feedback as a way to level up quickly as both an engineer and a product
thinker.
● You’re deeply product-oriented, consistently engaging with the why behind features
and evaluating tradeoffs through the lens of customer value and usability.
● You’re willing to challenge assumptions thoughtfully, and you both give and receive
candid feedback in service of better technical decisions and stronger outcomes.
Benefits
● Medical, Dental & Vision Insurance: Sparrow covers 90% of premiums for employees
and 50% for dependents
● 401(k): Sparrow offers a 3% safe harbor match
● Paid Time Off: 3 weeks PTO
● In-Office Culture: This role is based in our New York City office
● Friday paid lunch: Catered lunch at the end of each week
Why Join Sparrow
Sparrow is at a true inflection point. Our core product is live in production, the business is
profitable, and the next phase of growth depends on shipping thoughtful, high-quality
product quickly.
This is a deeply hands-on engineering role for someone who loves to build and cares deeply
about product. You’ll be writing code every day, partnering closely with Product, and
continuously enhancing the platform based on real customer feedback. One of the strongest
signals we hear from customers is how much they value the friendliness and approachability
of the experience—maintaining and elevating that quality is a core part of this role.
Sparrow serves a customer base that has been historically underserved by technology
providers. Many of our customers operate on legacy systems, and there is a massive
opportunity to deeply understand their pain points and help modernize how they work through
thoughtful, well-executed software. You’ll be close to these problems, helping translate real
operational challenges into practical, scalable solutions.
You’ll be close to the product, close to customers, and close to the decisions that shape
Sparrow’s roadmap. If you’re excited by high ownership, high visibility, and the chance to grow
alongside a small team where your work has immediate and meaningful impact, this is a rare
opportunity.
About the Team
Sparrow’s product team is small, technical, and close to the work. Engineering, Product, and
GTM sit in the same room and solve problems together. There are no layers and no handoffs for
the sake of process.
The engineering team is made up of builders who care about systems that work in the real
world. Team members come from strong technical and academic backgrounds, with experience
building and scaling production software that touches sensitive financial data.
Decisions are driven by evidence, not meetings. Product direction is shaped by how customers
actually use the platform, not by abstractions or slide decks. Engineers are involved in
understanding customer constraints, and product decisions are made with a clear view of
implementation reality.
This is a team for people who want proximity to truth, fast feedback loops, and responsibility that grows with impact.
