The Digital Payments domain is responsible for designing, building, and operating ICT solutions that enhance UniCredit’s digital product offering for Corporate and SME clients.


We are looking for a Medior and a Senior Java Software Engineer contributing to mission-critical banking platforms within UniCredit, with a strong focus on Payments & Cash Management high-availability systems and regulatory-compliant software. The role combines deep Java expertise with banking domain knowledge, reliability engineering, and close collaboration with business and risk stakeholders.


What you can expect from us

  • Design, develop, and maintain Java-based backend services for banking and payments systems
  • Contribute to RESTful APIs and microservices using Spring Boot
  • Support integration with banking, payment, and messaging platforms
  • Ensure code quality through unit testing, peer reviews, and documentation
  • Participate in incident analysis, bug fixing, and performance improvements
  • Collaborate closely with Business Analysts, Solution Architects, Operations, Security, and Compliance teams
  • Gradually take ownership of components and technical features


What we expect from you

  • 3–5+ years of professional experience with Java (enterprise or backend development) and frameworks such as Spring, MVC, etc.
  • Experience working with messaging systems such as IBM MQ, ActiveMQ/Artemis
  • Understanding of integration patterns (message-based integration, synchronous vs asynchronous communication)
  • Familiarity with API-based architectures (RESTful services), containerized environments (OpenShift/GKE), Tomcat/JBoss
  • Knowledge and experience with main RDBMS (Postgres, Oracle, MS SQL)
  • Experience across the end-to-end delivery lifecycle: development, testing, deployment, and production support
  • Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent professional experience
  • English proficiency (minimum B1)


Preferred / Nice to have

  • Exposure to cloud migration or hybrid cloud environments for enterprise systems
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing
  • Previous experience in banking, payments, or financial services
  • Additional European language (e.g. German)
  • Experience working in agile delivery environments
