About Hazel

Hazel is the AI coworker for consumer brands. We connect to a brand's live data — Shopify, Klaviyo, Amazon, Meta, and dozens of others — and turn it into a teammate operators talk to every day. Today, Hazel is unrivaled at research and analysis: ask "why did repeat purchase rate drop last week?" and 30 seconds later you get an answer, cited from live data.

Next on the roadmap: Hazel takes action herself — proactively flagging issues, then making changes directly in Shopify and other systems she connects to. The end state: she runs full playbooks autonomously.

We're 3 people, venture-backed, managing a long runway while rapidly scaling. In the last year, brands on Hazel did over $1B in revenue. Customers include Bogg Bag and OneSkin. We're hiring engineer #2 to join the founding team.

What you'll work on

In your first 60 days, you'll be in the middle of building the action layer — Hazel's first writes back into the systems she connects to. Think: creating product bundles in Shopify, launching A/B tests in Klaviyo, and the human-in-the-loop scaffolding that makes all of it safe.

Beyond that:

  • Full-stack product features across TypeScript/React + Go services
  • AI agent workflows: streaming LLM responses, multi-step tool use, approvals
  • Integrations across Shopify, Klaviyo, Meta, Amazon — reading today, writing soon
  • The infra that ties it together: Protobuf/Buf, Temporal, Postgres, DuckDB

You'll work directly with the founders and customers. Code you ship today is in front of operators tomorrow.

Who we're looking for

  • You've shipped a production LLM feature, not a demo. You can describe how you evaluated it and what failure modes you hit.
  • You've owned an API at scale, query optimization, schema design, picking the right tool for the workload.
  • You've turned a customer conversation into shipped code in under a week.
  • Strong TypeScript. Comfortable in Go, or willing to ramp fast.
  • You care about how the product feels, not just whether the API works.

This isn't for you if…

  • You want product specs handed to you. Your manager is the customer.
  • You don’t have high agency or urgency.
  • You need a 30-person team before you'd take the leap.

Comp & benefits

  • $150–200K base
  • 0.5–1% founding equity
  • Top-tier health, dental, vision
  • 401(k)
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Hybrid in NYC

How we hire

  • 15-min screening call
  • Founder call
  • Live pair coding
  • Onsite — meet the team
  • Offer

Compensation Range: $150K - $200K
