Our workforce of more than 25,000 has pre‑eminent expertise in advanced aircraft design and production, modification and support, stealth technology and systems integration.

What You Will Be Doing

This position is for a Mission Assurance Software Engineer Senior supporting the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) and Integrated Fighter Group (IFG) platforms. Opportunities to support other LM Aero platforms may become available as the candidate progresses in this role. The role requires excellent technical skills, proven ability to work in an agile environment, and a solid foundation in embedded software development.

The candidate contributes to the design, development, testing, and debugging of AntiTamper (AT) software services, ensuring strict compliance with Lockheed Martin coding standards and development processes. Building on solid experience, the engineer defines and evolves AT software architecture, designs robust interfaces, and drives the creation of detailed specifications that align with system requirements. They actively participate in internal and external design reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR, etc.), synthesize stakeholder feedback, and implements corrective actions.. In addition to mentoring junior team members, the engineer proactively evaluates emerging protection technologies and advances modern software design and analysis methodologies.

Daily tasks include but are not limited to the following:

  • Develop, maintain, and execute unit tests and requirements‑driven test suites for mission‑critical software components.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies (scrum, sprint planning, retrospectives) and use Agile tools (Jira, Confluence, etc.) to track work and deliverables.
  • Implement software features using C/C++ in a Linux environment; manage source code with GitLab (branching, merging, pull‑requests).
  • Design and develop middleware components that enable communication between mission systems and hardware subsystems.
  • Build, configure, and maintain CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI, Jenkins, etc.) to automate builds, static analysis, testing, and deployment.
  • Perform embedded software development, including memory‑mapped hardware access, bare‑metal coding, and real‑time operating system (RTOS) integration.
  • Conduct root‑cause analysis of software anomalies: fault isolation, debugging, and after‑action reporting.
  • Collaborate with system engineers, hardware engineers, and test teams to ensure software meets interface, performance, and security requirements.
  • Produce and maintain technical documentation, test procedures, and operational guidance.
  • The successful candidate will report to the Mission Assurance F-35 & IFG Manager, working under the Mission Assurance Senior Manager, and be expected to work closely with the other members of the Mission Assurance staff to ensure synergy across the Aero portfolio.
