Python Backend Software Engineer – Startup - San Francisco

A Python Backend Software Engineer is required by a startup whose platform makes it easier for developers to work with multiple AI models through a single, consistent interface. The company is used by major organisations including Netflix, NASA, Adobe, and NVIDIA, and is generating more than $10M ARR while remaining meaningfully profitable. They are looking for a Backend Engineer with 2 - 5 years of experience to own company’s critical guardrails and observability tooling. They need an engineer, ideally from a high-growth startup, who is excited to build for massive scale and is comfortable talking directly with developers at their largest enterprise customers like Nvidia, Adobe and NASA.

Requirements

• Strong Computer Science or other STEM degree from a top university
• 1 - 5 years of experience in backend software engineering in Python or Rust.
• Experience with backend frameworks (e.g., FastAPI, Flask). Familiar with database integration (PostgreSQL, Redis).
• Experience at a high-growth software startup.
• Experience with observability and monitoring tools.

What you'll do:

• Build and scale company’s core product, ensuring world-class performance and reliability for 1B+ monthly requests.
• Own the backend code for guardrails and logging, ensuring all calls are traceable and errors are surfaced correctly.
• Enhance our observability stack (Datadog, Splunk, Prometheus) to handle high-volume traffic with minimal latency.
• Develop in Python and/or Rust to build and design CPU-level guardrails against common attacks.
• Engage directly with developers at large enterprise customers several times a week to solve their challenges.
