Senior Software Engineer

Location London, UK (hybrid, 4 days in office) · Salary £80k-£140k + meaningful equity · Full-time
Senior / Staff AI Engineer at a fast-growing series A startup building an AI operating system for private equity, scaling rapidly with 20+ engineering hires planned over the next 12 to 18 months.
The company
We've partnered with a London-based AI company building an operating system for private equity and private capital firms. Their platform automates due diligence, document analysis, and portfolio monitoring, pulling structured insight out of the unstructured chaos that PE teams currently process by hand.
They're seed-stage, backed by tier-1 investors and senior PE execs like Goldman Sachs. ARR has grown 15x in the last 12 months, with product-market fit landed at multi-billion dollar funds in the UK, US and Europe. Currently a team of 10, around 6 in engineering, with significant expansion planned across the next 12 to 18 months.
The role
You'll be joining a team of around 8 engineers, working directly with the CTO on the architecture that turns unstructured financial data into actionable insight. You'll own features end-to-end, from the initial conversation with a PE partner through to deployment, and you should expect your code to land inside enterprise deals within days of joining.
Stack is Python and FastAPI on the backend, React and TypeScript on the frontend, Postgres, Docker. The LLM layer uses LlamaIndex, LangChain, and PyTorch to build RAG pipelines where accuracy is non-negotiable (in PE, a wrong number kills a deal).
You should be comfortable jumping between a Postgres migration and a complex UI component in the same day.
What they're looking for
- A track record of taking products or features from zero to one. They want product engineers who ship, not researchers
- Strong Python, FastAPI, Postgres, React, and Docker. Experience with HuggingFace or Azure is a bonus
- High agency. You see a bug or a gap, you fix it. You don't wait for permission or a Jira ticket
- Product sense and customer obsession. You care more about the problem than the library
- Comfortable as an IC and excited about an early-stage environment, not seeking immediate people management
- Previous startup experience strongly preferred
Benefits
- Salary: £80k-£140k
- Equity (early enough to matter; flexibility for the right person)
- Private healthcare
- One month a year fully remote
- Home office setup budget
- Minimal meetings, no bureaucracy
The process
- Intro call with Ethiq (30 mins)
- Vibe-check call with the CTO (25-45 mins)
- Live coding session
- System design / whiteboarding session
- Final in-person with the co-founder at the London office
Typically around two weeks from first call to decision.
