Software Engineer - Go
Remote (UK Based)
Salary: Up to £79,000 + Bonus & Equity
We're looking for a Software Engineer to join a well-established, scaled consumer business with a large and growing engineering function. This is a company that takes engineering seriously, teams own what they build end to end, which means you'll be involved in design, delivery, and ongoing operation, not just writing code and throwing it over the fence.
You'll be working on backend services that need to be reliable, performant, and built to scale — contributing to technical design, picking up complex problems, and helping raise the bar on the quality of what gets shipped.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build and maintain backend services that are robust, well-tested, and easy to operate in production
- Take ownership of observability from day one - if you build it, you should be able to see how it's running
- Work with containerised infrastructure in a cloud-native environment
- Contribute meaningfully to technical design discussions and requirements gathering across cross-functional teams
- Debug and resolve issues in complex, distributed systems methodically and efficiently
Key Requirements:
- Solid backend engineering experience with Go as your primary language, and practical knowledge of gRPC
- Hands-on experience with Kafka or similar event-driven systems
- Comfortable with Docker and Kubernetes in a production context
- A good grasp of distributed systems design, including how to build for fault tolerance and high availability
- Strong database skills across both relational (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB, Cassandra) technologies
- DevOps-minded - this team runs what it builds, so production ownership matters
- A collaborative communicator who can engage clearly with both technical and non-technical colleagues
- Someone who takes quality seriously and is always looking to improve — in their code and in how the team works
What's on Offer:
- Up to £79,000 base salary plus strong bonus and equity
- Fully remote working within the UK
- Option of a 4 day week
- A genuine ownership culture where engineers are trusted to do their best work
This is a strong opportunity for a backend engineer who wants real ownership over what they build, in a team that values craft, collaboration, and doing things properly.
Unfortunately, due to the high volume of applications, not everyone will be able to receive detailed feedback.
