Senior Backend Engineer

Location: New York

Compensation: $250–400K base

We’re hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to join a small, high-caliber team building a high-scale consumer platform.This is a product-oriented backend role focused on designing and owning the systems that power real user experiences.

You’ll be working on core application-level systems like onboarding, messaging, notifications, and other customer-facing workflows that directly shape how users interact with the product.

What You’ll Work On

• Design and build end-to-end backend systems that power critical user workflows
• Own application architecture, including API design, data modeling, and service boundaries
• Build scalable, low-latency services that support real-time user interactions
• Define and implement authorization models, permissions, and user-level access patterns
• Design systems that handle concurrency, consistency, and reliability at scale
• Work closely with product and design to translate user needs into robust backend systems

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for engineers who have:

• 4+ years of experience building backend systems in production
• Strong experience designing customer-facing workflows (e.g. onboarding, messaging, ordering, booking, etc.)
• A track record of owning systems end-to-end - from design through to production
• Experience building and scaling APIs that directly support product features
• Strong understanding of application-layer challenges (data modeling, permissions, workflows, consistency)
• Experience working on high-traffic or real-time systems
