Founding Data & AI Engineer – Boutique Family Office – London (Mayfair) – Excellent Comp + Benefits
Indexed description
My client, a high-performing, boutique family office, is looking for a Founding Data & AI Engineer to build and scale its data platform from scratch. This is not a back-office role: you’ll sit directly with investors, owning the pipelines, tools, and models that support real investment decisions across public and private markets.
The firm is a London-based investment platform managing a diversified alternatives portfolio across private equity fund investments, co-investments, structured credit, and NAV-based financing strategies. It operates with a lean, high-calibre team and deploys capital into institutional-quality opportunities alongside leading global managers, often involving complex and bespoke transaction structures.
With a strong foundation already in place, the business is now investing in building out its data and technology capabilities, with this hire representing the first dedicated technology appointment and a key step in strengthening its long-term analytical capabilities.
Why this role is interesting
You’ll join as the first dedicated tech hire, with full ownership to design and build the firm’s data and AI infrastructure end-to-end.
The business is at an inflection point - moving from ad-hoc workflows to real-time, production-grade data systems.
You’ll work directly with senior investors, shaping how data and AI are used across the entire investment process.
What you’ll actually do
- Work closely with investors to translate investment questions into scalable data and AI solutions.
- Design and build real-time and batch data pipelines across market data vendors (e.g. Bloomberg, Refinitiv, CME).
- Take ideas from proof of concept through to full production deployment.
- Develop internal tools, dashboards, and automation used daily by PMs and analysts.
- Apply AI / LLMs / NLP to workflows such as research, sentiment analysis, and reporting.
- Own data architecture, quality, and monitoring across the platform.
What they’re looking for
- 3–7 years’ experience in Data Engineering / Analytics Engineering / ML Engineering.
- Strong hands-on skills in Python and SQL.
- Experience working with real-time market data and APIs.
- Proven track record of taking solutions from POC → production.
- Exposure to AI / GenAI / NLP in practical use cases.
- Comfortable working in a front-office, stakeholder-facing environment.
What you get
You’ll join a small, high-calibre team with direct access to decision-makers and genuine ownership from day one. Expect a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment, exposure to both public and private markets, and the opportunity to shape the firm’s long-term technology strategy - with a clear path to build and lead a team over time.
