This is not a classic Senior Data Engineer role.
The company is now looking for a Founding Senior Data Engineer who will take ownership of the Data Engineering foundations, remain deeply hands-on, and progressively become the operational manager of the future Data Engineering squad when it is created.
The Data Engineering squad does not exist yet, but it will be created. The person joining now will be the founding profile for this perimeter.
You will help the team:
- Build data as a product: trusted datasets used company-wide for reporting, experimentation, automation and internal tools
- Own and evolve a modern data platform supporting product, AI, growth, monitoring and governance
- Structure the Data Engineering roadmap and technical standards
- Improve reliability, quality, observability and documentation across the platform
- Prepare the foundation for future Data Engineering hiring and team management
- Snowflake for data warehousing
- dbt for transformation, modeling and analytics engineering foundations
- Airbyte for ingestion
- Metabase for dashboards and self-serve analytics
- Airflow or similar orchestration tools for pipeline orchestration
- SQL and Python as core technical skills
- Cloud environments such as Snowflake, GCP or AWS
- Testing, monitoring, alerting, documentation and access governance across the platform
- Take ownership of the Data Engineering foundation and act as the founding profile for the future squad
- Scale the data infrastructure to make it more reliable, scalable and cost-efficient
- Design and maintain robust data pipelines ingesting from internal systems, APIs and external tools
- Improve dbt project organization, factorize jobs and strengthen transformation quality
- Manage data access and governance across tools such as Snowflake and Metabase
- Build a clear Data Engineering roadmap and prioritize technical initiatives
- Partner with the Data Analysts squad to make data more reliable and scalable
- Support product, AI, marketplace intelligence, growth and international expansion use cases
- Contribute to the technical evaluation, onboarding and standards of future Data Engineering hires
We are looking for a strong Founding Senior Data Engineer deep hands-on technical foundations, proven platform ownership and the ability to grow into the operational manager of a future Data Engineering squad.
You should not be a pure manager detached from delivery. This role starts as a 100% hands-on position.
You should also not be a classic individual contributor only. The company needs someone able to structure, own, set standards, drive roadmap and prepare the future team.
You may be a strong fit if you have:
- At least 6 to 8+ years of professional experience in data engineering or a similar role
- A track record building, owning or scaling a modern data platform
- Strong hands-on experience with stacks such as Airflow, dbt, BigQuery/Snowflake, Airbyte/Fivetran or event streaming
- Proficiency in SQL and Python
- Hands-on experience with orchestration tools, cloud environments and data warehouses
- Proven ability to improve reliability: testing, monitoring, alerting, observability and documentation
- Experience setting technical standards, not only executing tickets
- Ability to build and prioritize a Data Engineering roadmap
- Strong ownership across architecture, delivery and stakeholder alignment
- Ability to work closely with Data Analysts, Product Managers, Engineers and business teams
- Mentoring, onboarding, technical evaluation or hiring exposure is a strong plus
- Strong written and spoken English
