Role Overview

Senior Director, eCommerce Engineering

Senior leadership role focused on modernizing large scale commerce platforms and driving long term architecture strategy.

The team is looking for a strong backend and architecture leader who can guide modernization efforts, influence technical direction, and partner closely with engineers and architects across global teams.

Responsibilities

Platform & Architecture

• Lead architecture strategy across commerce platforms
• Modernize legacy Java backend systems
• Improve checkout, billing, payments, and subscription platforms
• Drive AI initiatives across engineering workflows
• Support cloud and database modernization efforts
• Improve platform scalability, reliability, and engineering efficiency

Leadership & Collaboration

• Lead engineers, architects, and engineering managers across global teams
• Partner closely with Engineering, Product, and Platform leadership
• Help improve engineering standards and technical processes
• Provide strong technical leadership across modernization initiatives

Key Projects

• Modernizing legacy commerce systems
• Introducing AI enabled capabilities into existing platforms
• Improving checkout and payments performance
• Supporting cloud and database modernization
• Defining long term architecture strategy

Ideal Background

Strong preference for candidates with experience in:

• Large scale consumer technology companies
• Enterprise eCommerce environments
• Payments or subscription platforms
• High traffic transaction systems
• Large scale modernization projects

Must Have Skills

• Strong Java backend engineering experience
• Deep architecture and distributed systems knowledge
• Experience modernizing enterprise platforms
• Cloud platform experience, especially Azure
• Ability to stay technical at the architecture level
• Experience leading global engineering teams

Nice to Have Skills

• Payments or billing platform experience
• AI focused modernization experience
• OracleDB migration experience
• AWS exposure
• React familiarity

Compensation

• Base salary between $230k and $280k
• 30% annual bonus
• Strong equity package

Location

Hybrid opportunity with strong preference for candidates based in:

• Mountain View

Candidates should feel comfortable working onsite several days per week.
