About The Role
This is a platform engineering role at the heart of how software gets built and delivered. You will own and evolve a Backstage developer portal that provisions and automates the full DevOps toolchain for engineering teams across the organisation, making TypeScript proficiency central to everything you do. Alongside Backstage, you will manage API integrations and support a mature, well-integrated DevOps ecosystem. Your key responsibilities include:
- Building, extending, and maintaining the Backstage developer portal using TypeScript
- Developing and automating API management (APIM) workflows through TypeScript
- Managing and improving CI/CD pipelines via Jenkins and Bitbucket runners
- Supporting containerised workloads with Docker and Kubernetes
- Integrating and maintaining security and quality tooling including Snyk and SonarCloud
- Working with observability platforms (Elasticsearch, New Relic) to support platform health
- Contributing to testing frameworks embedded within build and delivery pipelines
- Leveraging AI tooling such as GitHub Copilot and Claude Code to enhance productivity and code quality.
- Solid TypeScript development skills (non-negotiable for this role)
- Hands-on experience with Backstage or a strong motivation to work with it
- Practical knowledge of Kubernetes and Docker in delivery pipelines
- Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins or Bitbucket pipelines
- Familiarity with security scanning tools like Snyk or SonarCloud
- Understanding of observability practices and tools (New Relic, Elasticsearch, or similar)
- Sound grasp of modern delivery practices and DevOps principles
- Ability to collaborate across teams and communicate platform changes clearly
