Software Engineer II - Fullstack

About the Role

Our team builds and manages the tools and services that power the lifecycle of critical actions taken supporting Uber'sMarketplace Security ecosystem.

Operating in more than2,000 cities worldwide, Uber's marketplace faces a diverse range of potential threats -- from natural disasters impacting large regions to localized safety incidents affecting individual neighborhoods. Our team builds and maintains thetechnology solutions that enable timely, effective responsesto major marketplace incidents, protecting drivers and riders from dangerous situations and safeguarding Uber's brand.

This role is for a developer who will be writing code todesign, build, and scalesystems that help keep Uber's global community safe. You'll develop and maintainfull-stack applications, managebusiness-critical databases and real-time services, and work closely with cross-functional partners to integrate security needs into Uber's marketplace configuration platform.

Your contributions will directly support Uber's mission toprotect drivers, riders, and delivery partners-- helping ensure the safety and integrity of millions of marketplace interactions every day.

---- What the Candidate Will Do ----

1. Code: Writes high-quality code (i.e., reliable, readable, efficient, testable), provides quality code reviews, and creates comprehensive tests and quality documentation using software engineering principles. This includes knowledge of data structures, algorithms, programming and associated programming languages and frameworks, and major phases/activities of the software research and development life cycle (e.g., requirements, design, build, experiment, test, debug, deploy, monitor). Identifies, reports, and solves technical problems according to standards and best practices.

1. Design: Uses software design principles and methods, knowledge of the capabilities and limitations of existing software solutions at Uber, and an understanding of own work's impact on other areas to reuse, extend, or, when needed, build effective architectures that are integrated with existing solutions and in alignment with needs and goals across areas. Learns and anticipates current and future design requirements and evaluates trade-off decisions to design systems that meet current needs and can be extended for future needs

1. Execute: Executes work with drive and appropriate sense of urgency to deliver technical and business impact. Plans, organizes, and manages tasks, resources, and relationships to accomplish work accurately and on time. Defines and diagnoses problems and determines an appropriate solution, recommendation, or decision while logically evaluating alternatives and factors (e.g., resources, costs, tradeoffs). Accepts responsibility and accounts for own actions and work.

1. Collaborate: Builds trusting and collaborative relationships and rapport with different types of people and teams. Respects the unique backgrounds and contributions of others. Recognizes conflict or disputes among people and situations, learns and works to understand different points of view. Resolves and aligns discrepancies across teams and organizations to accomplish team-, organization-, or Uberwide goals. Provides constructive feedback to others in a tactful and impactful manner.

---- What You Will Need ----

1. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical field or equivalent practical experience
2. 4+ years of relevant experience
3. Extensive experience infront end web development technologieslike React, Angular, NodeJS
4. Experience coding using general purpose programming language (e.g., Python, Go, or Javascript)
5. Strong experience in architecture design, high-availability, and high-performance systems.
6. Deep understanding of distributed systems.

1. Provenexperience and interest in full-stack development, with strong emphasis on backend systems.
2. Demonstrated success indriving collaborationwith Product Management, Design, and other cross-functional partners.
3. Prior experience working onbusiness-critical systemswith measurable impact on company performance and top-line growth.
