About HiDO Health
HiDO Health is commercializing an AI-powered robotic medication dispensing platform for home-based chronic care, starting with the hardest adherence problem in healthcare: dementia. Our system combines an in-home robotic dispenser, cloud infrastructure, and real-time clinical data to keep complex patients on their medications and out of the hospital.
Backed by NIH funding and validated through clinical partnerships including UC Davis, our technology has demonstrated medication adherence with dementia patients and significant reductions in hospitalizations in pilot deployments. We are now moving from clinical validation into commercial deployment with health plans and Medicare Advantage payers, and we are hiring the engineer who will own the platform through that transition.
The Role
We’re looking for a highly driven software engineer who lives on the cutting edge of AI-assisted development and wants to push the boundaries of what small teams can accomplish. Ideal candidates have hands-on experience with agentic AI coding workflows, AI-powered code review platforms, autonomous development agents, and modern tools that can accelerate software velocity 10x. You should be excited about leveraging bots, copilots, and AI orchestration systems to rapidly prototype, test, debug, and ship production-grade software across real-world healthcare and robotics applications. Experience building creative side projects, automations, or internal AI workflows that dramatically improved engineering productivity is highly valued. We want someone intellectually curious, fast-moving, and obsessed with maximizing impact every single day while helping define the future of AI-enabled software development at HiDO Health.
We are looking for a hands-on Mid to Senior Full Stack Engineer / Systems Lead to own our platform end-to-end — Go microservices on the backend, React and React Native on the frontend, and the AWS + Kubernetes infrastructure underneath both.
This is a single-owner technical role on a real, production platform: you will be the person who evolves our microservices, ships our caregiver and clinician apps, runs our EKS environment, and keeps the device-to-cloud-to-clinician path reliable in real patient homes.
You’ll work directly with the CEO, hardware engineering, and clinical teams. There is no platform team to hand things off to.
Additional Ownership
- Owns technical decisions across backend, frontend, infrastructure, and system architecture
- Acts as the primary engineering authority as the company scales, with the opportunity to build and lead the engineering team over time
If you want to architect, build, deploy, and operate the system that defines a company — this is that role.
What You’ll DoBackend & Data
- Evolve our Go microservices (Gin, GORM, gRPC) across API, gateway, chat, and the pillbox device pipeline
- Design and operate real-time orchestration: NATS, Temporal, WebSockets, Redis/Valkey
- Model and operate the data layer — Aurora MySQL (Serverless v2), Realm, ClickHouse
- Own the device-telemetry pipeline (ingestion, replay, retention, auditability)
- Build APIs and SDKs consumed by firmware, mobile apps, and web dashboards
Frontend & Mobile
- Build and maintain web apps (Next.js / React, TypeScript, Tailwind, TanStack Query)
- Build and maintain React Native mobile apps (Redux Toolkit, Realm, Firebase, Detox)
- Translate clinical workflows into usable interfaces for caregivers, patients, and clinicians
- Own accessibility, localization, and testing (Playwright, Detox, a11y)
Infrastructure / DevOps
- Own AWS end-to-end: EKS, RDS, S3, ECR, KMS, VPC, Route53 (via Pulumi)
- Operate edge/on-prem Kubernetes environments (ARM64, GitOps fleet)
- Run CI/CD: Docker, ArgoCD, Jenkins, Vault, Prometheus/Grafana/Loki/Sentry
- Maintain HIPAA-compliant infrastructure and security posture
- Be on-call and build the systems (runbooks, dashboards, alerts) that reduce incidents
Cross-Cutting
- Collaborate with hardware and clinical teams to ensure the system works in real patient homes
- Integrate with real-world pharmacy workflows and device behavior (connectivity loss, missed doses, patient variability)
- Define technical roadmap and engineering practices
- Make and communicate tradeoffs (speed vs compliance, scope vs timeline)
What Success Looks Like (First 6 Months)
- Device → cloud → app pipeline operating reliably in real patient homes (>99% uptime)
- CI/CD fully automated with safe, frequent deployments
- Monitoring, alerting, and runbooks in place with fast incident response
- Platform ready to scale from pilot to commercial deployment (hundreds → thousands of devices)
- Trusted, auditable data pipeline for adherence tracking and payer reporting
- Core systems documented and extensible for future hires
What You’ll Bring
- 7+ years of software engineering experience with production system ownership
- Strong Go (or systems language) + TypeScript
- Real-world AWS + Kubernetes experience (EKS, IAM, VPC, KMS, RDS)
- Experience shipping React or React Native products
- Experience with CI/CD, observability, and production operations
- Comfortable in ambiguous, high-ownership environments
- Fluent using AI coding tools (Codex, Cursor, Claude Code, etc.)
Nice to Have
- Healthcare / regulated systems experience (HIPAA, SOC 2, FDA, ISO 13485)
- Pulumi / Terraform / CDK
- Event-driven systems (NATS, Kafka, Temporal)
- IoT / device telemetry / embedded integration
- ARM64 / cross-architecture experience
- ArgoCD, Vault, Kyverno
What Makes This Role Different
- Real impact — platform already deployed in patient homes
- Direct partnership with CEO on product, architecture, and execution
- Full-stack + infrastructure + systems ownership in one role
- AI-native engineering workflow
- Healthcare with real regulatory and operational depth
- Clear path to Head of Engineering / CTO as the team scales
What This Role Is Not
- Not a feature factory with a defined backlog
- Not a large team with clear boundaries
- Not a pure frontend or backend role
- Not low stakes — this system impacts real patients
