Background
Most companies are making today's development workflows faster. This one is asking a different question: what does software development actually look like when AI agents can contribute meaningfully across design, implementation, and iteration?
This is a ~50-person company backed by world-class investors, founded by someone who has built a successful developer tools company before. They're not catching up to a market - they're trying to define one.
What you'd be working on
The core challenge is agent enablement: making AI agents useful and reliable inside real codebases - not in demos, but in production, across teams, at scale. Day to day, that might mean prototyping a new language integration on Monday, pairing with a designer to sharpen CLI interactions mid-week, and presenting a technical vision to the wider engineering team by Thursday.
The environment
Teams are small and cross-functional. Engineers work close to the why - contributing to product direction, not just taking tickets. AI is a core part of the development experience. Standards are high: clean, modular, reviewable code, strict CI, and a genuine care for how software is built across teams.
Who fits here
- You're a programming polyglot across several languages of different paradigms (e.g. JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, C/C++, Haskell, etc)
- You're equally comfortable hacking up a proof of concept to disprove an assumption and contributing carefully to a mature, well-structured codebase.
- You use AI tools seriously in your own workflow as a genuine accelerant.
- You care about code structure and aesthetics.
- You can articulate trade-offs clearly.
- You'd rather understand the problem deeply than optimise the wrong thing quickly.
- Experience with developer tooling, infrastructure, REST APIs, or open source is a genuine bonus.
The problem they're solving - what software development becomes in an AI-native world - is one of the most consequential open questions in the industry right now.
