Senior Product Manager, AI
Indexed description
Aplazo is in the middle of an AI transformation. We are shipping AI-powered features to consumers and merchants, building internal tools that change how our teams work, and developing the infrastructure that makes all of it possible. This is underway, not planned.
The Senior PM, AI owns the product side of that transformation. This role defines what we build and why—setting the AI roadmap, owning delivery of AI-powered features, and working alongside Engineering, Operations, Risk, Data Science, Design, and other partner teams to land outcomes that matter.
This is a hands-on role. At Aplazo, PMs are expected to build, not just plan. The gap between “I have an idea” and “here is a working prototype” is collapsing, and we expect this person to close it. You will work directly with APIs, prompt pipelines, and evals—not just manage the people who do. Reporting to the CRPO, with high visibility and a broad mandate.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the AI Roadmap: Define what Aplazo builds with AI, for whom, and in what order. Translate company priorities into a coherent product agenda spanning consumer products, merchant products, and internal tooling. Make the hard calls about what not to build.
- Ship AI-Powered Products: Lead end-to-end delivery of AI features across the consumer and merchant experience—smarter onboarding, more intelligent decisioning, personalized flows. Work directly with Engineering and Design. Move from problem to production.
- Build Internal AI Tools: Identify and deliver tools that make Aplazo teams measurably faster—automated workflows, intelligent processing, and AI copilots for Risk, Ops, and Product. Own adoption, not just availability.
- Define Requirements for the AI Platform: Partner with the AI Engineer to translate product needs into platform capabilities—RAG pipelines, orchestration layers, evaluation frameworks, and safety controls. Be a credible counterpart: understand what you’re asking for.
- Partner on Risk & Data: Collaborate with Risk and Data Science to identify AI use cases that improve approval rates, fraud detection, and collections. Understand the data well enough to have an opinion.
- AI Strategy & Governance: Establish evaluation standards, responsible use guidelines, and build/buy/partner frameworks. Be the company’s AI subject matter expert. Know what’s possible, what’s practical, and what’s worth building. Push back when hype outpaces value.
- Team Building: Hire and grow a small AI product team as scope expands. Be a player-coach: individual contributor first, team builder over time.
- Years of experience: 5+ years in product management, including hands-on work shipping agentic products to production.
- Technical skills:
- Has built and shipped AI-powered products end-to-end—not just managed roadmaps. Has gotten their hands into APIs, prompt pipelines, evals, and model outputs.
- Comfortable working at the systems level: understands how LLMs work (context, tokens, latency, cost, hallucination), not just how to prompt them.
- Knows what makes AI output production-grade—the quality of context, specs, and verification, not just the cleverness of the prompt.
- SQL and Python proficiency is a requirement. Can prototype without waiting for Engineering.
- Soft skills:
- Strategic clarity—makes hard prioritization calls and can articulate the reasoning. Decides what not to build as readily as what to build next.
- Strong written communication—writes one-pagers that co-founders actually read and specs precise enough for engineers to act on without a meeting.
- Builder at heart—gets into the work, not just the deck. Sets their own agenda. Does not wait to be told what to do.
- Effective cross-functional operator—has worked closely with Engineering, Data Science, Design, and non-technical stakeholders. Comfortable influencing without authority.
- Languages:
- Communication at Aplazo is bilingual; proficiency with English is a requirement.
- There is a clear, well-reasoned AI roadmap that leadership can speak to and product teams can execute against.
- AI-powered features are shipping to consumers and merchants—with defined owners, clear metrics, and measurable outcomes.
- Internal AI tools are adopted, not just available. Teams are measurably faster because of them.
- The AI Engineer and product teams are aligned on platform priorities because this PM has translated product needs into clear technical requirements.
- The AI investment is visibly tied to business results—approval rates, conversion, operating efficiency—not just to activity.
