Location: Dallas, TX (5 days per week onsite)

Level: Manager

Reporting Line: Director, Cloud Engineering

Base Salary: Competitive base, targeting ~$200,000

A large, engineering‑led organisation is seeking a Manager, Cloud Engineering to take ownership of its public cloud engineering capability. This role sits within a broader cloud organisation and plays a critical part in maturing AWS‑ and GCP‑based platforms while enabling deep integration with private cloud environments.

The organisation operates at significant enterprise scale, supports mission‑critical internal and product workloads, and is in the early stages of building a more structured, well‑governed public cloud foundation.

The Role

This position leads the day‑to‑day public cloud engineering function, with primary responsibility for AWS and secondary responsibility for GCP. While cloud platforms are already in use, they lack consistent governance, best‑practice architecture, and standardised operating models.

The mandate is clear: assess what exists, bring structure and control, and then partner closely with private cloud teams to enable seamless hybrid workload mobility. This is a hands‑on leadership role, suited to someone who still wants to stay close to architecture and delivery while building and scaling a team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the public cloud engineering function, reporting into a Director‑level cloud leader
  • Audit and assess existing AWS and GCP environments, defining a best‑practice target architecture
  • Implement governance, access controls, security standards, and operating models across public cloud
  • Build, hire, and develop a cloud engineering team, providing hands‑on technical leadership
  • Drive Infrastructure as Code across all cloud provisioning and configuration
  • Partner with private cloud teams to enable hybrid connectivity and workload mobility
  • Own reliability, incident management, cost optimisation, and FinOps practices
  • Act as the senior AWS/GCP subject‑matter expert for engineering teams and internal stakeholders

Must‑Haves

  • 8+ years in cloud, infrastructure, or platform engineering
  • 3+ years leading or managing engineers or senior technical contributors
  • Deep, hands‑on expertise in AWS (primary) with meaningful GCP experience
  • Strong Infrastructure‑as‑Code background (Terraform strongly preferred)
  • Solid understanding of networking, security, identity, and distributed systems
  • Proven experience designing or operating hybrid cloud architectures
  • Clear evidence of having personally built and owned cloud platforms — not just overseen them

Nice to Have

  • AWS Professional Architect certification
  • Kubernetes and container platforms (EKS, GKE, Docker)
  • DevOps or SRE background
  • Experience in enterprise‑scale or regulated environments
  • Exposure to GPU‑based or AI/ML workloads

Why Join

  • Ownership of a growing public cloud environment with strong executive backing
  • Opportunity to bring structure and maturity to a platform still being built
  • Hands‑on influence over architecture, standards, and engineering direction
  • Clear growth path for an engineer‑turned‑leader looking to expand scope and impact
  • Work on large‑scale, business‑critical infrastructure in a long‑term, engineering‑led environment
