The Associate Editor supports the development and management of print and digital educational products. This role collaborates with editors, authors, and cross-functional teams to produce high-quality instructional content that meets curriculum standards and market needs.
Position Summary:
The Associate Editor supports the development, review, and production of print and digital educational content. This role collaborates with editorial teams, authors, and external contributors to ensure high-quality products are developed accurately and on schedule, drawing on a strong understanding of classroom practice and student learning, especially at the high school level, when making editorial decisions.
Salary Range: $50,000–$65,000 per year, depending on experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist editorial staff with the development and review of print and digital instructional content.
- Coordinate freelance writers, editors, reviewers, and other external contributors.
- Support proofreading, copyediting, and quality checks throughout product development.
- Track project timelines and assist with maintaining product development schedules.
- Communicate with authors, reviewers, and internal team members to support project progress.
- Prepare and maintain documentation such as product correlations and skill tagging.
- Review legacy materials and assist with content updates or supplemental text selections.
- Collaborate with team members to improve workflows and support department goals.
- Use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support research, drafting, editing, and workflow efficiency while maintaining editorial quality standards.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Educational background or experience preferred, particularly in English language arts.
- Understanding of secondary curriculum standards and how teachers and students interact with instructional materials.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and project coordination abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects in a deadline-driven environment.
- Editorial, publishing, or administrative experience preferred.
- Regular and predictable attendance is required.
- Primarily sedentary work with extended periods of computer use.
- Repetitive hand and finger movements for typing and computer tasks.
- Visual ability to review digital and printed materials.
