Freelance UI/UX Designer (Web Experience + Design Systems)

Qualifications and requirements

1. 5+ years designing digital products and marketing sites, with portfolio work that shows real systems thinking, not just pretty screens
2. Fluency in Figma: auto-layout, variants, variables, and component documentation that engineers can actually build from
3. Strong accessibility instincts: color contrast, readability, clear hierarchy, neurodivergent-friendly pacing
4. Information architecture sense, especially around progressive disclosure and guiding people through complex content
5. Experience designing within CMS constraints (WordPress, Sanity, or similar) is a plus

Job functions

You'll be the lead designer on a web redesign for a service-based organization, translating an evolving brand system into a scalable digital experience. The work spans marketing pages, editorial content, location templates, and the design system that holds it all together. You're not just designing screens, you're building the system that lets the site grow over time without falling apart.You'll work directly with our brand designer on visual translation, our engineering team during build and handoff, and our project lead on scope and timing. It's a small, tight team, so expect direct collaboration and real conversations, not layers of approvals.What will you be responsible for?

1. Designing core templates: homepage, marketing pages, content/editorial templates, location landing templates
2. Building a scalable component library in Figma (CTAs, cards, FAQs, navigation, forms, search/filter, pagination, mobile nav, etc.)
3. Designing responsive layouts across desktop and mobile
4. Defining light motion and interaction patterns (hover states, transitions, navigation cues)
5. Documenting components and systems so engineers can build them without guessing
6. Iterating through review rounds and supporting design adjustments during the build phase
