Title: Cost Technician (Intermediate)

Location: Hybrid (3 days onsite / 2 days remote)

Duration: Initial 12-Month Contract

About the Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented Cost Technician to support project cost control across multiple initiatives. This role is focused on invoice validation, timesheet review, and cost tracking, ensuring accuracy and compliance with purchase orders, contracts, and internal systems.

This is a highly analytical and process-driven role that plays a key part in maintaining financial accuracy and supporting project performance.

Key Responsibilities

Invoice Validation & Processing

  • Review and validate vendor invoices against purchase orders and governing documents
  • Confirm scope of work, rates, work orders, and effective dates
  • Ensure accurate cost allocation using work orders, commodity codes, and supporting data
  • Identify and resolve discrepancies in invoices and documentation
  • Route invoices through approval workflows

Timesheet Validation & Processing

  • Validate timesheets against PO terms and governing documents
  • Confirm rates, units, work orders, and references
  • Ensure accurate cost allocation and proper documentation
  • Enter and maintain timesheet data in internal systems
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies in timesheets and supporting data

Reporting & Analysis

  • Generate standardized and ad-hoc reports for project cost analysis
  • Track contractor performance and financial metrics
  • Support internal reviews, audits, and forecasting activities
  • Communicate findings and issues to project stakeholders

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in accounting, project controls, or cost analysis
  • Strong experience with invoice validation, AP/AR, or financial processing
  • Experience working with purchase orders, cost tracking, and financial documentation
  • Strong Excel and reporting skills
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with timesheet validation and cost allocation
  • Familiarity with procurement or financial systems (e.g., Ariba or similar)
  • Background in project-based environments (construction, utilities, engineering, etc.)
