- Owns full P&L accountability for the credit and debit card portfolios, including revenue, losses, operating expense, and contribution to Credit Union ROA.
- Develops and actively manages pricing, interchange optimization, fee strategy, and balance growth to improve profitability while maintaining member value.
- Understands and influences credit, fraud, and operational loss drivers, ensuring performance aligns with financial and risk appetite targets.
- Builds and maintains financial models that explain and forecast portfolio ROA, yield, cost of funds, losses, and expense leverage.
- Defines and executes a multi-year card portfolio strategy that grows balances, spend, and active usage while improving portfolio economics.
- Identifies opportunities to reshape the portfolio (product design, underwriting, pricing, rewards, digital engagement) to reach target ROA and scale.
- Serve as the primary business voice for cards across the enterprise, influencing and aligning: Marketing strategy, Digital and channel strategy, financial planning and forecasting, credit risk and fraud strategy and compliance and regulatory execution.
- Acts as a first line risk owner for the card business, accountable for identifying, understanding, and managing credit, fraud, operational, and compliance risks.
- Partners closely with second line Risk and Compliance to ensure products, pricing, underwriting, and practices meet regulatory expectations.
- Balances growth objectives with prudent risk management to ensure sustainable portfolio performance.
- Drives modernization of card products and capabilities, including digital experiences, rewards, servicing, and controls.
- Owns strategic relationships with card networks and processors, including Visa, Mastercard, and American Express, as well as credit and debit processing partners.
- Ensures the card platform ecosystem supports scalability, innovation, and operational efficiency.
Ideal Candidate Will Have
Prior responsibility for running or materially leading a credit and debit card program at a financial institution with $10B+ in assets. Experience managing portfolios with six figure card counts or larger. Proven ability to drive portfolio transformation improving ROA through pricing, risk strategy, engagement, or product redesign Background partnering closely with Finance, Risk, Compliance, Marketing, and Digital teams.
