Essential And Supplemental Functions
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Essential functions may include, but are not limited to the functions listed below. Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation.
- Service, clean and perform minor maintenance, repairs and adjustments on a variety of gasoline and diesel automobiles, motor coaches and alternative-fueled vehicles.
- Operate a variety of motor vehicles and motor coaches; transport motor vehicle and coaches to and from any location within assigned department operations; drive through the bus wash.
- Maintain records of fuel, different types of oils, coolant, vehicle mileage, charging data and other maintenance records as appropriate.
- Inspect vehicles for damage and defects; move vehicles into maintenance bays, fueling stations, battery charging stations or parking areas as required.
- Check and adjust vehicle fluid levels to ensure proper operating levels.
- Fuel, check and replenish lubricates, automotive, motor coach and paratransit equipment at appropriate maintenance interval.
- Perform custodial duties and assist building maintenance staff for all transit facilities.
- Connect electric vehicle to charging stations and start the charging process.
- Verify and monitor charging process and disconnect the charging connectors upon completion of charge.
- Adhere to safe work practices and procedures.
- Assist in general maintenance and cleaning of automotive shop area.
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
- credit hours vocational training in mechanical repair or general mechanical maintenance experience is preferred.
Possession of a valid City Operator's Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire into position.
Possession of a valid New Mexico Commercial Driver's License (CDL) class B with a Passenger (P) endorsement within a six (6) week period from completion of City training.
Must be able to maintain CDL once obtained.
Must successfully complete Maintenance training.
Must provide a current driving record.

- Basic operational characteristics of automotive and heavy equipment
- Basic automotive troubleshooting principles
- Basic theory of operation of automatic and manual transmission
- General automotive maintenance
- Occupational hazards and standard safety practices
- Service, clean and perform minor maintenance on City motor vehicles and motor coaches
- Perform minor adjustments on gasoline and diesel engines
- Inspect vehicles for damage and defects
- Maintain records of vehicle maintenance performed
- Perform lubrication and other routine servicing of automotive and heavy equipment
- Work independently in the absence of supervision
- Communicate clearly and concisely
- Perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
Physical
Essential and supplemental functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for light to heavy lifting and carrying; bending; stooping,; kneeling; crawling; standing for prolonged periods; and operating motorized equipment and vehicles.
