The Kansas Corporation Commission (KCC) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Executive Director to provide strategic leadership and operational management. The KCC is a multi-faceted state agency responsible for regulating public utilities including electric, natural gas, telecommunication and water companies as well as motor carriers, oil and gas pipelines and oil and gas natural production activities. The Commission’s headquarters is in Topeka with the central Conservation office in Wichita and four Conservation district offices located in Dodge City, Wichita, Chanute and Hays. This key executive role is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the agency's daily business activities, ensuring all operations align with the KCC's core mission.
Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to,
- Oversee the internal operational divisions that support the core, statutorily recognized divisions (Utilities, Conservation, Transportation, and Energy) and the Commissioners. This position does not manage day-to-day operations or staff of the core divisions.
- Supervise the directors of the agency support divisions: Human Resources, Information Technology and Fiscal divisions. Ensure the agency governance and strategic plans are being met by the support divisions.
- Collaborate closely with core division directors and Commissioners to develop and execute the agency strategic roadmap, aligning operational services with the agency core divisions and Commission business needs.
- Oversee the development of the agency annual budget in conjunction with the various divisions.
- Coordination of legislative, gubernatorial, and other governmental affairs with core division directors, Commissioners, and public affairs.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Proven leadership and operational management experience.
- Minimum of three years supervisory experience.
- Strong financial and budget management experience.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to translate vision into action.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Communications, Public Administration, Political Science or related fields is preferred.
- Post-graduate degree from an accredited university in Business, public affairs, law, or another relevant field.
Compensation: $130,000 - $142,475 annually
* Salary can vary depending upon education, experience, or qualifications.
