Peer Support Specialist / Peer Recovery Coach

First Resources Corp. is hiring a full-time Peer Support Specialist / Peer Recovery Coach to provide community-based peer support and recovery coaching throughout Southeastern Iowa.

We are looking for someone who understands recovery personally and believes people deserve support, connection, and someone willing to walk alongside them during difficult moments. This role is about building real relationships, helping individuals reconnect with their strengths, and supporting people as they navigate mental health, substance use, recovery, and everyday life challenges.

This role is community-based, relationship-driven, and focused on meeting people where they are while helping increase awareness and understanding of Peer Support services throughout the community.

Peer Support Specialists Use Lived Experience To

• Build hope and meaningful connections
• Provide 1:1 peer support and recovery coaching
• Help individuals identify goals and strengths
• Support wellness, coping skills, and independence
• Connect individuals to resources and community supports
• Attend meetings, outreach events, and community activities
• Advocate alongside individuals and encourage self-advocacy
• Help reduce isolation and strengthen community connection

This position will also help grow Peer Support services throughout Southeast Iowa through outreach, networking, education, and relationship-building within the community.

Applicants should have lived experience with mental health and/or substance use recovery and be actively living well in their own recovery journey. Travel throughout assigned service areas including Ottumwa, Mt. Pleasant, Washington, Oskaloosa, and surrounding communities is expected.
