Consultant in Upper GI with Emergency General Surgery

This is an exciting new hybrid post to support established pancreatobiliary/ oesophagogastric/ colorectal teams and support emergency surgical care as part of a larger general surgical team. It is expected that the successful candidate will be part of general surgery on-call rota at the Royal site. We are looking for a keen, dynamic Consultant willing to integrate with existing subspecialty teams of 22 surgeons who provide Emergency general surgery and specialist on call for the South of the city to deliver a first-class service. The post holder will help meet waiting list targets for general surgical procedures and help shape the evolving emergency surgery (EGS) model.
Applications are invited for suitably qualified individuals for a Consultant in Upper GI with Emergency General Surgery. This is a full-time post, but all applications will be considered on merit, including those hoping to work less than full time.
Job Purpose
- The post holder will have full and continuing responsibility for the care of patients in his/her charge, including all administrative duties associated with patient care.
- Leadership, development, and organisation of the services in his/her charge in line with the Trusts’ business plans.
- Liaise and work in collaboration with the Lead Clinicians, Senior Management, and operational teams for Surgery and with the multi-disciplinary teams (MDT) that support the service.
- With the agreement of the Clinical Lead and Clinical Service Group Director, development of own interests and sub-specialties within the specialty, in line with business planning principles and commissioners’ approval, including active participation in research programmes.
- Corporate and individual responsibility for professional management of doctors in training.
- The post holder must liaise with appropriate teams to ensure cover is provided within the specialty during periods of leave of absence having regard for your own commitments to ensure optimal utilization of clinics and list and minimal impact to patients.
