Engineering/CAD Technician

Reports To

Partners, Design Group

Summary

The Engineering/CAD Technician will be responsible for assisting with the design, analysis and testing of new Springland Manufacturing products and the redevelopment of current offerings. Working with the Design Group and the Marketing and Manufacturing teams, the Engineering/CAD Technician will be tasked with identifying and facilitating product features and improvements, with a focus on quality, ease of manufacture, cost control and appearance. He or she will prepare and analyze product drawings, specifications and prototypes, preparing reports as necessary at each stage of development. This individual will be a key member of the development team and ensures that Springland Manufacturing produces high quality products. Other duties will be assigned as necessary.

Job Duties

  • Work with Autodesk Inventor to prepare drawings and models of Springland products and production equipment.
  • Work with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software to build bills of material for Springland products.
  • Support Design, Product Development, Quality Control, Planning, Production and Sales Teams.
  • Test physical and computerized drawings and prototypes for functionality, reliability and ease of manufacture.
  • Research components, part suppliers and materials for suitability, durability and cost-effectiveness.
  • Respond to product development/functionality inquiries.
  • Prepare and update operators’ manuals and installation instructions.
  • Troubleshoot product malfunctions/failures to prevent future concerns.
  • Assist other engineers with product development projects.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

Requirements

  • Certificate/Diploma from an accredited CAD Technician program, OR 2-5 years experience in 3D Parametric CAD or 2D CAD.
  • Good command of written English in technical writing.
  • Proficient in common office productivity software.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills with strong oral and written communication abilities.
  • Quality Control background including problem solving and root cause analysis.
  • Exceptional organizational abilities with task prioritization, multi-tasking, use of timelines and time management techniques.
  • Strong work ethic.
  • Professional/mature demeanour under stressful situations.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be able to work with little supervision; must be self-directed.

Work Conditions

  • Some travel may be required.
  • Ability to attend and conduct presentations.
  • Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals.
  • Will be required to use PPE.
