Location: Ascension Parish, Louisiana
Schedule: Monday to Friday
Reporting Structure: reports into the Director of Plant and Cost Accounting
Introduction
Brunel is currently seeking a Project Controller for our manufacturing client in Tulsa, Oklahoma. This role will support one of the largest capital investments in the company’s history, an approximately $4B greenfield project.
The Plant Controller has a direct reporting relationship to the Director, Plant and Cost Accounting within the Corporate Controllers department and acts as a key financial partner to Project Leadership and their direct reports by providing financial oversight, critical analysis, and supporting disciplined capital execution. In this role, you will be responsible for providing timely and accurate financial reporting and analysis throughout the project lifecycle. You will establish and maintain a strong internal control environment, ensure compliance with financial policies and SOX requirements, and support operational readiness as the project transitions from construction to operations.
Responsibilities
- Acts as a key financial reporting resource to Corporate and project leadership, providing financial insight, forecasting, and analysis to support decision making
- Acts as a key financial business partner to Project Leadership by providing operational financial data and analysis across the project lifecycle
- Leads accounting activities related to large scale construction projects, including construction in progress, fixed assets, accruals, capital calls, and cash calls
- Accounts for, manages, and reports on capital spending across a multibillion dollar project, ensuring appropriate financial oversight and governance
- Manages monthly close activities and reviews general ledger entries associated with project accounting
- Partners with the Project Controls organization to ensure accurate cost tracking, forecasting, and financial transparency across contracts and work packages
- Establishes and implements internal control processes and procedures, ensuring alignment with corporate policies and SOX requirements
- Supports internal and external audits by providing required documentation and ensuring audit readiness throughout the project lifecycle
- Build strong working relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners and act as a trusted financial advisor to project leadership
- Identifies financial risks and makes recommendations to support mitigation while enabling timely and informed decision making in a fast-paced construction environment
- Supports the development and scaling of accounting processes as the project transitions from construction to steady state operations
- Provides assistance to Corporate Finance and prepares additional analyses as required
- Promotes strong cross functional collaboration with Engineering, Construction, Procurement, and Finance teams
- Demonstrates a high level of integrity and maintains knowledge of accounting standards, internal controls, and regulatory requirements
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 5 or more years of relevant professional experience in accounting or finance; prior supervisory experience required
- 5 to 10 years of supervisory experience in manufacturing accounting preferred
- CPA or MBA preferred
- Significant experience supporting large, complex capital projects, ideally within manufacturing, chemicals, energy, or heavy industrial environments
- Demonstrated experience with project accounting for multi year, multi billion dollar capital programs
- Strong understanding of internal controls, compliance, and financial governance in a regulated environment
- Ability to clearly communicate financial information to project teams and senior leadership
- Strong judgment and problem solving capabilities in complex, high stakes project environments
- Ability to design and scale accounting processes from construction through steady state operations
- Collaborative leadership style with the ability to partner effectively across engineering, construction, procurement, and finance teams
- Proficiency in a Windows based environment, including intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Familiarity with SAP or similar enterprise accounting systems is preferred
