Automation Controls Specialist – Midstream Gas Processing Facilities (Texas)

We are seeking an experienced Automation Controls Specialist to support the delivery of turn-key gas processing installations and cryogenic NGL facility control system upgrades. This is a fly-in fly-out position based in Midland, Texas. We welcome applications from across North America and are particularly interested in candidates from Alberta, British Columbia, or Saskatchewan with strong Western Canadian midstream experience.

In this role, you will design, develop, troubleshoot, and optimize PLC and DCS based control systems to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operation of midstream gas processing facilities. You will also play a key role in building the company's automation division, including project scoping and preparation of detailed technical proposals.


Core Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, program, test, and maintain PLC/DCS control logic (ladder, structured text, function block) for fractionation, treating, dehydration, chilling, and storage systems.
  • Configure and troubleshoot HMIs, SCADA systems, and historian databases for real-time plant monitoring and control.
  • Design, implement, and optimize industrial automation networks, including Ethernet/IP, Modbus, and Profibus protocols.
  • Support commissioning, startup, and optimization of automation systems for upgrades, expansions, and new builds.
  • Develop and maintain documentation, including logic diagrams, control narratives, and as-built drawings.
  • Travel to plant sites as required for on-site programming, troubleshooting, and technical support.


Required Qualifications:

  • Candidates must be citizens or permanent residents of the U.S. or Canada.
  • Diploma or degree in Instrumentation, Electrical/Electronics, Automation Technology, or a closely related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Vendor-specific training or certification in Rockwell Automation and Emerson DeltaV is required.
  • Demonstrated experience with HMI development (FactoryTalk View, Ignition, Wonderware, DeltaV Live or equivalent) and SCADA systems.
  • Minimum 5–7 years of hands-on experience programming PLC and DCS systems in industrial process environments.
  • Valid driver's license; ability to pass background and drug screenings; willingness to work in plant environments with PPE and on rotational or as-needed schedules.
  • Red Seal Instrumentation & Control Technician certification is strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of industrial networks, communication protocols, and field instrumentation (including 4-20 mA and HART).
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, electrical schematics, control narratives, and technical documentation.


Preferred Background:

Candidates from Alberta, British Columbia, or Saskatchewan with experience in Western Canadian midstream, oil sands, SAGD plant operations are strongly encouraged to apply. Experience working within AER (Alberta Energy Regulator) or BC Oil and Gas Commission regulatory environments is considered a strong asset. Familiarity with turnaround and shutdown environments in Calgary, Edmonton, Drayton Valley, Lloydminster, Grande Prairie, or Fort St. John is an advantage.
