Basic Function
In the absence of the regular classroom teacher, the substitute teacher provides instruction, encourages student progress and manages the learning environment.
Essential Duties
- Follows professional practices consistent with school and system policies in working with students, students' records, parents and colleagues.
- Maintains student confidentiality
- Take accurate attendance records
- Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities
- Complies with Zion District #6 Board of Education policies and the administrative regulations for the State of Illinois
- Conducts assigned class at the scheduled time
- Enforces regulations concerning student conduct and discipline
- Dresses in a manner consistent with school policies
- Maintains accurate, complete and appropriate records and files
- Demonstrates professional practices in teaching
- Models correct use of oral and written language
- Provide individual and small group instruction to adapt to curriculum needs of pupil
- Administer group standardized tests
- Create and teach or follow lesson plans as required by school policy
- Assigns reasonable tasks and homework to students
- Performs all other tasks and duties as assigned by Principal or Assistant Principal

Physical Abilities: Standing for extended periods of time; bending at the waist to assist students; reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally; hearing and speaking to exchange information; seeing to monitor student activities and behavior; dexterity of hands and fingers to demonstrate activities and prepare materials.
