OUTSOURCE AGENCIES - RESPECTFULLY PLEASE GO AWAY. There are better ways for you to demonstrate that reading/comprehension isn't your thing.

A unique opportunity for a very experienced accountant who wants a “taste of the city” without the commute. What we can deliver is more important about the title we put on our business cards, but if you're a (genuinely senior) account, supervisor, assistant manager, or manager – we’d love to hear from you!

About You

You're looking for genuinely flexible work, and often-spoken-about but not rarely truly delivered, work/life balance.

You have at least 6 years' experience in business services, ideally in mid-tier firms or quality suburban practice, where you've dealt primarily with small business and high net-worth clients. Technical competence is expected and non-negotiable.

You're preferably an experienced Xero user, as we are a Xero-based practice, with very few clients using MYOB/QBO. If you've used Xero as an accountant (extracting reports, posting manual journals) that's great, if you have bookkeeping type experience (a more detailed and in-depth understanding), even better.

Superannuation knowledge would be VERY highly regarded (You won't be doing the debits and credits, but understanding the compliance process is an advantage).

You know your way around Div 7A, 100A, tax planning, trust distributions, and other typical tax issues affecting small business and family groups. (We'll be a guiding hand on your shoulder, but won't hold your hand).

You're committed to providing high quality service to each and every client – you're defined by your ability and experience, rather than the letters you do/don't have after your name.

Strong communication – oral and written – is an absolute dealbreaker.

About Us

Established in October 2016, we're a small firm, headed by two young (44) and progressive partners with a healthy love of coffee and 90s pop culture, that punches well above its weight.

We've grown, and continue to grow, by word of mouth – we take good care of our clients, and they love us for it.

We run a very flat structure – you won't find the traditional full pyramid team setup here – with a VERY casual work environment (including dress code).

Our clients range from small- and micro-businesses, through to those turning over up to $80m, and investors/HNW family groups with all sorts of structures.

We're a modern firm; no timesheets, willing to be somewhat flexible with hours and location (more on this in a minute), but with one core traditional value: personal service. We are people working with people, not a company that works with companies.

Based in Werribee (with clients ALL over the country), we're a proudly boutique firm and want to keep it that way; we know that big isn't always better.

We're not solely focused on tax returns, but take in all aspects of financial and business affairs. Banking/debt, estate and succession planning, cash-flow planning and a lot more.

The role

Due to our size and current structure, this is initially a very hands-on role. You'll get to know the clients and the "Formic way" of doing things. So although you won't necessarily be asked to perform some of the 'traditional' responsibilities of a supervisor or manager from day one (workflow- and staff management), you will be expected to assist and collaborate with other team members, sharing your expertise and experience.

If the phrase "that isn't my job" is part of your vocabulary, this isn't the role for you. The role will grow and evolve once you've become embedded within the firm, assuming further managerial responsibility.

We're looking for someone with a minimum 6 years' experience, who can work largely autonomously, looking after a portfolio of clients where you'll attending to their every need. In some cases this includes some light bookkeeping/BAS preparation, dealing with the ATO, and preparing financials & tax returns from end to end. You'll work closely with the partners, and will communicate directly with clients.

There is no expectation that you'll be bringing in new clients or have partnership aspirations. Of course, if you do manage to land a new client, we are very happy to reward you. Boutique means adaptable and flexible. If you're a 'career manager', we would LOVE to hear from you. Looking to earn a seat at the big table? That works as well.

As the role is critical in supporting our partners and team through our next phase of growth, it is primarily office-based, at our shiny new Werribee office. We are however very open to discussing flexibility, which means different things to different people. WFH where personal circumstances dictate from time to time, is VERY doable. Prefer to start/finish earlier/later than our standard 9 to 530? Let's chat about that too.

Salary package in the range of $115,000 to $145,000 inclusive of SG and any salary-packaged benefits to be agreed, based on the successful candidate's experience and ability.
