We are seeking a talented and detail-oriented Fabric Production Designer to join our team. In this role, you will ensure that our fabric production, specifically the fabrication of shade and rain membranes, is equipped with the necessary design materials to produce accurate and high-quality structures. Responsibilities
Produce fabric patterns & shop drawings, including all files pertaining to the fabrication of the product. Chart the fabrication process. Produce CAD patterns. Produce and format CNC cutting files. Produce shop drawings detailing the process. Act as a bridge between the Design Team and Fabricators. Collaborate with Design to get a deeper understanding of overlapping processes between Design and Fabrication. Get familiarized with design processes leading up to the fabrication phase. Understand and create technical part drawings/shop drawings to lead the production design. Lead fabricators’ understanding of how the project comes together, assembly order, details of assembly, etc. Understand all production (fabric assembly) processes. Review past project pattern processes, learn ideas, and produce new patterns based on this process. Contribute to institutional learning and growth through sharing. Contribute to the execution of individual projects and the maintenance and evolution of technical documentation for company standards. Follow and maintain procedures for file creation, management, collaboration, organization, and archives. Understand work process flow and modify flow based on needs. Keep open and clear communication channels between team members and departments. Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise - Minimum 2 years working in awning, tent, sailing, or shade structure fabrication. - Excellent communication skills. - Expansive knowledge of fabric fabrication processes used in awnings, tents & shade sails. - Knowledge of architectural, engineering, and fabrication practices. - Knowledge of materials and methods of custom fabrication. - Strong organizational and time-management skills. - Adherence to company file management protocols. - Active participation in the company project management process. - Hard-working and detail-oriented problem solver. - Advanced proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) software. - Proficiency in Rhinoceros 3D. - Understanding and proficient use of Rhino/Grasshopper (a plus). - Experience drafting architectural or engineering drawings. - Minimum 2 years of experience working in a peer-review environment. - Strong grasp of technical skills and ability to visualize in 3D. - Experience with SketchUp, AutoCAD, and Revit (a plus). - Mathematical aptitude and attention to detail. - Experience with fabric structures (a large plus).
