VistaCare Communications is a leading technology solutions provider for a wide range of businesses and organizations. We are currently seeking an experienced and motivated Structured Wiring Technician to join our Halifax, NS operations for permanent, full-time position. Structured Wiring Technicians are involved in all facets of maintaining a cable system from installing, repairing, programming, through to upgrading cable infrastructure.

This position may require out of town travel on occasion. Company paid travel and accommodations are provided.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Maintain cable systems by installing, repairing, programming, and upgrading cable infrastructure
  • Run new cabling in new or existing buildings
  • Responsible for the termination and testing of new cabling
  • Perform major and minor preventive maintenance and repairs by troubleshooting cabling system issues
  • Set up new telecommunications frames
  • Understand, adhere to, and promote environmental, health & safety practices
  • Assist co-workers with installation and routine maintenance of structured cabling systems

Knowledge and Skills

  • Ability to test, analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve complex issues
  • Ability to manage workload and to ensure jobs are completed on time and on budget
  • Job planning skills according to desired timelines, including the dissection of blueprints
  • Strong manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions, confined spaces, isolation
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding atmosphere including, but is not limited to: carry, raise and climb a ladder, carry, lift and handle heavy equipment and/or tooling.
  • Self-disciplined, motivated and organized

Additional Requirements

  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license and clean driver’s abstract
  • Willingness to work overtime, weekends, or on emergency call outs as required
  • Willingness to travel would be beneficial as travel options may arise for future projects
  • The successful candidate will be required to pass a criminal record check

Experience Required

  • Preference will be given to those with Structured Wiring and fibre optic splicing experience
  • Supervisory or team lead experience is considered an asset
