Machine Learning Engineer (AI Data Trainer)

About The Role

What if your machine learning expertise could directly shape how the world's most advanced AI systems reason, plan, and solve problems? We're looking for experienced ML Engineers to help train cutting-edge AI models by demonstrating how expert technical thinking actually works — step by step, tool by tool, decision by decision.

This is a fully remote, flexible contract role built for technical professionals who can think deeply, communicate clearly, and translate complex problem-solving into structured, high-quality training data.

  • Organization: Alignerr
  • Type: Hourly Contract
  • Location: Remote
  • Commitment: 10–40 hours/week

What You'll Do

  • Produce precise, well-structured reasoning logs that walk through sophisticated technical challenges from start to finish
  • Document sequential decision-making workflows — capturing how an expert strategizes, selects tools, and adapts to new information
  • Generate high-quality training datasets that demonstrate proficient tool use, logical planning, and sound technical judgment
  • Review and refine AI-generated reasoning steps, identifying gaps, errors, or weak logic
  • Work independently and asynchronously — fully on your own schedule

Who You Are

  • Professionally experienced in machine learning, software engineering, or a related technical discipline
  • Exceptionally clear at explaining complex reasoning — you can turn intricate logic into structured, readable workflows
  • A rigorous critical thinker who can audit AI reasoning and spot where it falls short
  • Detail-oriented and consistent, with the discipline to document your thinking methodically
  • Comfortable working independently without hand-holding

Nice to Have

  • Master's Degree or PhD in a technical field
  • Prior experience with data annotation, data quality assurance, or AI evaluation systems
  • Familiarity with LLM behavior, prompt engineering, or model training pipelines
  • Background in technical writing, documentation, or research

Why Join Us

  • Work on genuinely frontier AI projects alongside world-leading research labs
  • Fully remote and flexible — structure your work around your life, not the other way around
  • Freelance autonomy with the substance of high-impact, technically meaningful work
  • Get rare, inside exposure to how advanced LLMs are built and trained
  • Potential for ongoing work and contract extension as new projects launch
