This role is part of Enterprise Technology (ET), where we’re developing the digital infrastructure needed to build the road to space, with an emphasis on digital capabilities required to advance Blue Origin’s mission. Enterprise Technology is the center of excellence for digital technology at Blue Origin, providing oversight and governance to align technology and business strategies.
Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To
- Lead software engineering, data, and architecture practices and standards within a multi-functional team
- Organize teams' Agile practices including sprint planning, backlog grooming sessions etc.
- Establish goals and define metrics to find opportunities for continuous improvement
- Hire and develop software engineers. Provide development goals, promotion guidance, and motivation to your direct reports
- Work directly with a product manager and business partners to set quarterly objectives and key results for software products
- Manage an internal roadmap with stakeholder input to constantly support the quality and configuration management of our space vehicles
- Work alongside design, manufacturing, and flight operations teams to understand opportunities for improvement and points of unnecessary complexity
- Challenge the status quo; continuously improve the organization’s tools and standards for development and operation
- 5+ years of proven experience effectively running and leading software development team
- 5+ year's experience in developing and deploying sophisticated production systems
- Solid understanding of the software engineering lifecycle including coding standards, configuration management, deployment, testing, and operations
- Ability to learn and understand the details of any technical component as well as drive the overall systems architecture
- A track record of delivering technical roadmaps by defining a clear vision of desired business outcomes
- Proven understanding of software engineering principles and the ability to translate domain expertise into applications
- Experience developing and delivering solutions in design, manufacturing, and flight operations environments or related skills supporting enterprise operations software with a high focus on operational excellence and continuous improvement
- Background in distributed computing, service/microservice architectures, and enterprise-wide systems and AI tools/technologies

- Required for Certain Job Profiles: Drivers who operate Commercial Motor Vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW), Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) or combination of power unit and trailer that meets or exceeds 10,001 lbs. and/or transports placardable amounts of hazardous materials by ground in any vehicle on a public road while in commerce, may be subject to additional Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations including: Driver Qualification Files, Medical Certification (obtained before onboarding), Road Test, Hours of Service, Drug and Alcohol Testing (CDL drivers only), vehicle inspection requirements, CDL requirements (if applicable) and hazardous materials transportation/shipping training.
- Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical
