Position Summary Information

Job Description Summary

The primary duties of the Residence Life Desk Assistant are to provide receptionist services and serve as the first point of contact for the Residential Emergency Protocol at the 24-hour Front Desk. This position requires a high-level of customer service to students, staff, and visitors. Student Employee may work up to 20 hours per week.

This position also serves as a communication center during any emergency situation that may arise. The Desk Assistant reports directly to the Director of Residence Life and works collaboratively with the Resident Life Staff.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 1.00 Cumulative GPA
  • Must live in housing during semester(s) of employment
  • Must be able to work weekends
  • Must be able to work late night/early morning shifts
  • Must not be on any college probation (academic or social) during the period of employment
  • Must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours with the College
  • Must be able to work at least 10 hours a week

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Monitor the entrances of the building to make sure only residents and their guests access the building
  • Monitor security cameras within the building
  • Answer questions for residents and guests
  • Maintain cleanliness of lobby and front desk area
  • Sign over packages to appropriate resident

Special Instructions to Applicants

You must be enrolled at the College on a full-time or part-time basis (minimum of 6 credit hours during fall and spring semesters and 3 credit hours during the summer semester); contact hours will not be used to meet the 6 credit hour minimum.

High-school students who are dual enrolled are eligible for student employment. You must also meet the credit hour requirement.

OR

You must be enrolled or continuing your education with a four-year College partner, on the campus of SMC, and be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours and at least 1 SMC credit hour during the fall and spring semesters and 3 credit hours and at least 1 SMC credit hour during the summer semester.

All student employees must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 to be eligible for student employment.

  • Hearing. Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discriminations in sound.

Light work. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
