Lead .NET Developer/Architect

Location: Oak Brook, Illinois (Hybrid, onsite Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday)

Duration: Contract-to-Hire


Our client, a well-established, family-owned organization specializing in transportation, logistics, and rail services, is seeking a Lead .NET Developer/Architect to join their dynamic team. Known for its supportive, collaborative culture, and recognized as one of the best places to work in Chicago, this company offers an environment where individuals can thrive and grow. This opportunity is part of a team expansion driven by a high-priority initiative to design and build a new solution to replace an existing rail application.


This role requires strong technical expertise in .NET, C#, Angular, and related Microsoft technologies, along with experience using Azure DevOps (ADO) for pipelines, CI/CD, and release management. The ideal candidate will also bring solid architecture experience and be comfortable contributing to the planning and execution of a system rewrite.


We’re looking for someone with demonstrated leadership skills who can effectively translate complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders and serve as a key liaison between business and technology teams.


The ideal candidate will function as a Lead Developer / Architect, with strong hands-on expertise in:

  • Microsoft technologies (.NET, C#, Azure)
  • Angular
  • Azure DevOps (ADO)
  • Modern AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Cursor, Claude)


Key Skills & Expertise

Analytical & Design Thinking

  • Demonstrated ability to lead end-to-end solution design
  • Translate complex business challenges into scalable, high-performance architectures

Microsoft Visual Studio

  • Expert-level proficiency in Visual Studio and related tools
  • Strong debugging, performance tuning, and workflow optimization skills

Microsoft Stack (.NET / C#)

  • Extensive experience with C# and .NET Core
  • Deep understanding of SOLID principles, dependency injection, and domain-driven design
  • Ability to build modular, scalable, and maintainable systems

Azure Cloud Services

  • Experience designing and managing cloud-native solutions using Azure (App Services, Functions, Key Vault, Azure SQL, DevOps)
  • Focus on security, scalability, and cost optimization

Front-End Development (Angular)

  • Strong experience with Angular and modern front-end frameworks
  • Ability to design UI architecture and integrate complex APIs
  • Focus on performance and user experience

SQL & Data Access

  • Strong background in relational database design and query optimization
  • Experience with Entity Framework Core and enterprise data modeling


Core Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain software solutions aligned with business needs
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies (stand-ups, sprint planning, retrospectives)
  • Contribute to architectural discussions and long-term technology strategy
  • Enhance and support existing applications
  • Follow change management and deployment processes
  • Manage source code using version control tools
  • Apply development best practices and organizational standards
  • Collaborate with QA, Project Managers, and Business Analysts to deliver high-quality solutions


Senior-Level Responsibilities

  • Design and implement secure, scalable, high-performance applications
  • Lead projects or major modules from concept through delivery
  • Provide technical leadership and influence architectural decisions
  • Mentor and guide Junior and Mid-Level Developers
  • Conduct code reviews to ensure quality and adherence to best practices to maintain code quality and promote best practices.
