Founded by the physicians of Retina Specialists of Michigan, the Foundation supports innovative clinical research, education initiatives, and access to cutting-edge care for patients affected by retinal disease.
Role Description
The Foundation for Vision Research is seeking a dynamic and visionary Executive Director to lead our organization with passion, strategic insight, and a commitment to excellence. The Executive Director sits at the intersection of science, philanthropy, and advocacy, leading a passionate team dedicated to funding the breakthroughs that will one day prevent and treat the full spectrum of retinal diseases. This role calls for a leader who embodies our core values of respect, integrity, excellence, and curiosity, keeping our team united and our mission moving forward. The job duties include:
- Provide strategic direction and leadership to ensure the Foundation's mission, vision, and values are realized through effective research programs and initiatives.
- Oversee program development, ensuring research efforts align with the Foundation's goals and reflect best practices in retinal disease science.
- Manage organizational operations, including budgeting, financial planning, and resource allocation to maintain fiscal responsibility.
- Supervise staff and program managers, fostering a positive work environment that encourages professional growth and accountability.
- Cultivate strong relationships with research institutions, funding agencies, donors, healthcare professionals, and the broader community.
- Lead fundraising efforts, grant writing, and advocacy initiatives to secure resources for ongoing program sustainability and growth.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and maintain high standards of research and operational quality.
A successful candidate will have these skills:
- Proven leadership and management experience.
- Expertise in fundraising, donor relations, and grant writing.
- Strong budgeting and financial oversight skills.
- Experience in nonprofit or healthcare/research-related fields preferred.
- Ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- Passion for advancing healthcare, particularly in vision research.
- Knowledge of nonprofit best practices and research funding landscapes.
- Ability to navigate complex regulatory environments.
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to work in a busy, fast-paced environment and adapt to change.

Job Type: Full-time
Education:
- Bachelor's degree (Required)
- Master's degree in Nonprofit Management, Business Administration, Public Health, or a related field (Preferred)
Experience:
- Nonprofit management or equivalent leadership experience: 3 years (Required)
- Fundraising or development: 3 years (Required)
- Budget and financial oversight: 2 years (Preferred)
- Healthcare or research environment: 2 years (Preferred)
