Position summary
Working closely with an experienced CEO, the role takes a leading position across operational execution, project development and commercial strategy. This is a hands on leadership role within a lean organisation offering broad exposure across upstream, midstream and downstream activities, as well as capital markets and IPO readiness.
The company are a privately owned energy company with a strategically significant gas asset in Mongolia. With joint venture partners in place and a clear pathway toward development, the business is entering a critical phase focused on de-risking the asset, advancing commercial outcomes and positioning for future liquidity events, including potential listing or strategic transactions.
To support this next stage of growth, they are seeking to appoint a Chief Operating Officer. This is a senior leadership role working closely with an experienced CEO, with broad responsibility across operational execution, project advancement and commercial structuring.
The role offers a rare opportunity to take a leading position in the development of a high-potential international gas project, with exposure across upstream, midstream and downstream value chains, as well as playing a key role in IPO readiness and broader capital market positioning.
- Drive progression of a strategically significant gas asset through development milestones.
- Lead reserves certification and technical de-risking activities.
- Work closely with JV partners to align development and execution strategy.
- Support and lead commercial initiatives including farm-ins, partnerships and offtake agreements.
- Contribute to export and commercialisation strategy, including engagement with Asian markets.
- Support capital raising strategy and execution.
- Play a key role in IPO readiness, governance and public company preparation.
We are seeking a commercially minded and operationally capable leader with experience in upstream oil & gas or energy project development, ideally within growth-stage or small-cap environments.
- The successful candidate will bring:
- Demonstrated experience in progressing energy assets through development phases, ideally within gas or upstream oil & gas
- Strong commercial acumen with exposure to transactions such as farm-ins, joint ventures, project financing, capital raising or offtake agreements
- Exposure to IPO processes, public market environments or preparation for liquidity events highly regarded
- A hands-on, adaptable approach suited to a lean organisation where senior leaders are actively involved in execution
- Experience working with boards, investors and external stakeholders in a growth or pre-development environment
- Ability to operate effectively across multiple jurisdictions and cultures, including engagement with Asian markets
