Business System Analyst
Indexed description
Our client is a global technology and consulting firm engaged with a leading asset management organization to modernize and enhance its investment technology platform. This role is embedded directly within the client environment, supporting a high-visibility initiative focused on investment performance, attribution, and portfolio data systems.
Role Overview
We are seeking a Senior Business Analyst with part-time product management responsibilities to own requirements, backlog, and agile delivery for a complex investment platform. The right candidate brings deep asset management domain knowledge, hands-on technical skills, and a track record of driving delivery in fast-moving, cross-functional environments.
Key Responsibilities
Business & Domain Analysis
- Lead requirements elicitation sessions with business and operations stakeholders across front, middle, and back-office teams
- Translate complex asset management processes into user stories, acceptance criteria, and functional specifications
- Map current and future-state workflows, identifying gaps and optimization opportunities
Agile Delivery & Part-Time PM (20–40%)
- Facilitate agile ceremonies including sprint planning, stand-ups, retrospectives, and backlog refinement
- Own and groom the product backlog in partnership with the Product Owner
- Track sprint velocity, manage dependencies, and communicate delivery status to stakeholders and leadership
- Coordinate cross-functional delivery across data engineering, analytics, and QA workstreams
Technical & Data Collaboration
- Write and maintain SQL queries for data validation, reconciliation, and ad hoc analysis
- Build BI visualizations, preferably using Power BI, to support decision-making and executive readouts
- Champion AI-augmented practices across the SDLC — requirements drafting, test case generation, automated documentation
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years as a Business Systems Analyst or equivalent within asset management or financial services
- Strong understanding of front, middle, and back office operations — trade lifecycle, portfolio accounting, investment performance, reconciliation, and client reporting
- Working knowledge of financial instruments including equities, fixed income, derivatives, alternatives, ETFs, and mutual funds
- Demonstrated ability to independently drive requirements gathering, stakeholder workshops, and documentation
- Experience facilitating agile ceremonies in a Scrum or Kanban environment
- Proficiency in SQL for querying, data validation, and analytical support
Preferred Qualifications
- CFA, CIPM, CAIA, or equivalent designation (or active candidacy)
- Understanding of investment performance measurement — TWR, MWR, attribution analysis, benchmark construction, and risk measures such as VaR, tracking error, and Sharpe ratio
- Experience with Power BI for dashboard development or data visualization
- Working knowledge of Python for scripting, data manipulation, or automation
- Familiarity with cloud data platforms such as Microsoft Fabric, Azure Synapse, Snowflake, or Databricks
- Experience with JIRA, Azure DevOps, or equivalent agile planning tools
What We're Looking For
- A self-starter who takes ownership and drives work forward without being asked
- Intellectual curiosity about markets, instruments, and the investment management value chain
- Strong communication skills bridging technical teams and business stakeholders
- Enthusiasm for experimenting with and integrating AI tools into planning, requirements, testing, and delivery
- Collaborative mindset with a bias toward clarity, transparency, and continuous improvement
