Key Responsibilities
System Management & Maintenance:
- Install, configure, operate, and maintain servers, storage, and peripherals
- Administer Active Directory (AD), DNS, DHCP, Group Policy (GPO), and VMware environments
- Ensure system stability, integrity, and performance for core organizational functions
- Perform hardware and software upgrades and maintenance
- Provide local and remote maintenance support to operational systems deployed at more than one location
- Apply and validate DoD Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) to ensure secure configurations
- Implement and manage security controls, patching, and vulnerability remediation
- Participate in Risk Management Framework (RMF) documentation and accreditation
- Monitor for security threats and risks, manage firewalls
- Perform vulnerability management
- Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), documentation, and network diagrams
- Automate routine tasks using scripting languages such as PowerShell, Python, or Ansible
- Create and maintain OS images for deployment
- Provide advanced, Tier 2/3 technical support, resolving complex incidents
- Monitor system performance (e.g., SCOM) and manage backups/disaster recovery
- Escalate issues and provide detailed reports (DLA INFOSPOTS, SITREPs, AARs) for critical outages
- Provide end user training when required
- Plan for future hardware/software needs and long-term system requirements
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and communicate with military/civilian stakeholders
- Direct the work of other system administrators for day-to-day operations including system and resource optimization
- Conduct system administrator training and skills assessment
- Provide recommendations on technology direction to align with business vision
Required Skills
- System administration in Windows Server and Red Hat Linux environments
- Active Directory (AD), DNS, DHCP, Group Policy (GPO) administration
- VMware virtualization environment management
- DoD Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) application and validation
- Risk Management Framework (RMF) documentation and compliance
- Scripting languages: PowerShell, Python, or Ansible
- System monitoring tools (e.g., SCOM)
- Backup and disaster recovery procedures
- Security patching and vulnerability remediation
- Firewall management and security controls
- Network configuration and troubleshooting
- IIS (Internet Information Server) administration
- Hardware and software installation, configuration, and maintenance
- Load balancing applications and fault tolerance
- Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in a technical discipline
- AND at least 10 years of specialized experience in Information Processing (see Years of Experience above)
- Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
- Advanced system administration or security certifications
- DoD Approved 8570/8140 Baseline Certification: Category IAT Level II (REQUIRED)
- Role: Server Admin Applications
- Certification in one or more of the following functional areas (Application Administrator) (REQUIRED):
- CompTIA (any current CompTIA certification)
- Azure (any current Microsoft Azure certification)
- IBM MQ certification
- Windows Web Server IIS certification
- Multiple IAT Level II certifications
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate
- VMware Certified Professional (VCP)
- Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA)
- ITIL Foundation
- US Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain an active Secret or higher clearance, per contract requirements.
