Portfolio AI Engineer - Private Equity Fund

Immediate Start – Hybrid w/ EU Travel

Up to £1000 per day (flexible depending on profile)

Dartmouth Partners are supporting a leading Private Equity fund that are pushing on with their AI journey. They are looking to engage a consultant to initially execute a use case for one of their portfolio companies, and then work further across the portfolio upon success.

This is not a broad transformation hire. It’s a purely engineering focused role centered around utilising GenAI tooling (Claude Code etc.) to build a specific use case.

This contractor will own that platform end-to-end working from problem definition through to delivery.

You must have:

✅ Strong knowledge of modern AI tooling (LLMs, frameworks, orchestration)

✅ Experience delivering AI / data use cases into production (not purely advisory)

✅ Understanding of data architecture and pipelines (without being purely infra-led)

✅ Ability to operate across business and technical stakeholders

✅ Experience in unstructured, early-stage environments where the solution isn’t predefined

The ideal profile:

• Grown up within top tier consulting environments (MBB etc.) owning technical projects
• Experience engineering products from end-to-end utilising GenAI tools
• Experience within value creation within a PE environment (either portfolio or fund)

What you'll be doing:

💡 Define and structure the use case with business stakeholders

💡 Decide the appropriate technical approach (GenAI vs traditional vs hybrid)

💡 Build or orchestrate delivery of a working solution

💡 Apply LLM tooling in a pragmatic, outcome-focused way

💡 Act as the bridge between portfolio leadership, technical teams and investors

💡 Deliver something live and usable, not experimental or theoretical

Start: ASAP

Location: London (hybrid) + c. monthly travel to EU portfolio site

Duration: Initial project scope, with potential to extend or scale across the wider portfolio
