Back End Developer

About the Role

We are seeking a Back-End Developer to join our in-office technology team in Jupiter, Florida. This role will be responsible for actively developing, optimizing, and maintaining the core back-end systems that power our software platforms and applications.

This is a hands-on position for someone who is proficient in back-end development and comfortable owning system architecture, building scalable services, and ensuring performance, reliability, and security across our platforms. You will play a direct role in strengthening the foundation of our software as we continue to grow and expand.

Responsibilities

• Support and enhance an existing POS backend platform
• Learn and work within an established legacy codebase with team support
• Collaborate with product, frontend, and support teams to develop new features and improvements
• Identify inefficiencies, bugs, and opportunities to improve performance and reliability
• Assist in designing and implementing backend integrations and APIs
• Help evaluate and plan long-term modernization, including potential migration toward SQL-based architecture
• Contribute to the stability, scalability, and evolution of the platform

Qualifications

• Experience in backend software development
• Strong understanding of databases, application logic, and backend architecture
• Experience with SQL and relational databases
• Ability to understand and work in an existing codebase
• Strong problem-solving skills and comfort working in evolving systems
• Experience with APIs and integrations preferred

Preferred (But Not Required)

Experience with one or more of the following is a plus:

• Alaska Xbase++
• Harbour
• Clipper
• FoxPro / Visual FoxPro
• DBF-based systems
• Legacy system modernization or migration projects
• POS, retail, or inventory systems
• AWS or cloud infrastructure

You do not need prior Xbase experience if you have strong backend fundamentals and a willingness to learn.
