GWLAI is seeking a collaborative and service-oriented Systems Administrator to join the Scholarly Technology Group ( STG ). STG is a highly collaborative unit where staff and librarians work together to meet student, faculty, and researcher needs across disciplines. As an active member of STG , the Systems Administrator will lead our infrastructure as a service environment and our popular and highly utilized program of consultations and workshops supporting computational and data fluency for all. LAI staff and librarians are champions of open access and open research practices to enhance research reproducibility. We also contribute to the scholarly community through our own software development, research, professional engagement, and service.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the deployment, management, and coordination of cloud infrastructure deployed on AWS .
- Provide support for GW students and researchers on topics such as cloud architecture, application deployment, coding, and/or data analysis through consultations, workshops, and participation in research teams.
- Coordinate technical workshop offerings with a distributed team of instructors in addition to Python Camp and Carpenties events
- Participate in software development projects that enhance access to information and preserving knowledge.
- Serve as an active participant in GWLAI teams and projects across campus.
Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 2 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications:
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience deploying and managing cloud-based infrastructure on Amazon Web Services
- Knowledge of best practices for teaching computational skills or Carpentries Instructor Certification
- Demonstrated experience with Python, Ruby on Rails, or another modern programming language
