Responsibilities
• Personalization Strategy: Define the product vision for recommendations across all surfaces—home feed, search results, notifications, emails. Balance relevance, diversity, and business objectives.
• Algorithm Partnership: Work closely with ML engineers to translate model improvements into user-facing features. You don't need to code, but you should speak the language of precision/recall.
• Experience Innovation: Design new recommendation formats beyond "You might like." Think explanation UI, user controls, social proof integration.
• Metrics & Experimentation: Define success metrics beyond CTR. Run sophisticated experiments to prove long-term value. Champion user satisfaction alongside engagement.
• Cold Start & Edge Cases: Solve the hardest problems—new users with no history, niche interests, explicit negative feedback handling.
Qualifications
• 5+ years as a Product Manager working on recommendation systems, personalization, or ML-driven products.
• Technical Fluency: Understanding of recommendation algorithms (collaborative filtering, embeddings, deep learning). Ability to read papers and discuss trade-offs with ML engineers.
• Data Analysis: Expert in SQL and experimentation. You can analyze user behavior patterns and design metrics that matter.
• User Psychology: Deep understanding of how users discover content, form preferences, and why they might distrust "the algorithm."
