About The Firms

Webster Architects and Extraordinary Homes are two complementary design practices based in Olathe, KS, with a combined history dating back to 1988. Extraordinary Homes specializes in modern custom residential design and construction. Webster Architects brings a broader portfolio spanning all styles of residential work as well as a variety of commercial projects. Together, the firms offer a dynamic, fast-paced studio environment where talented designers can work across a wide range of project types and scales.

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Project Architect to join our team in a full-time, in-office role. This is a unique opportunity for a senior-level professional who is ready to take on meaningful responsibility and grow into a leadership position. With both principals at or near retirement age, the right candidate will have a clear path toward assuming day-to-day operational leadership of the firm.

The role can be shaped to align with the strengths and interests of the right candidate.

Responsibilities

  • Lead projects from initial client meetings through schematic design, design development, construction documents, bidding, and construction administration
  • Serve as the primary client contact, managing regular communication and maintaining strong relationships throughout the project lifecycle
  • Produce accurate, high-quality construction documents using AutoCAD
  • Conduct field visits to monitor construction progress and ensure design intent is upheld
  • Manage and mentor junior staff and interns
  • Collaborate with project teams across multiple concurrent projects

Qualifications

Required:

  • 10 or more years of professional experience in architecture
  • Demonstrated residential design experience
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office
  • Strong client communication and project management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment

Preferred

  • Architectural licensure (RA)
  • Commercial project experience
  • Flexible educational background considered

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: $75,000 - $120,000 annually (salaried, non-exempt), commensurate with experience
  • 15 days PTO plus 8 paid holidays
  • Continuing Education (CEU) support
  • Flexible Spending Account (FSA)
  • Flexible hours - accuracy and quality are prioritized over speed

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Our studio is collaborative and team-based, with most projects handled by small, dedicated teams. The pace is fast, and you will typically be working across several projects in a given week. We value precision and craftsmanship in our drawings above all else. There is no travel required.

GROWTH OPPORTUNITY

This position offers a genuine long-term leadership opportunity. The principals are actively looking for someone willing to take over the day-to-day activities of the firm. For the right candidate, this is not just a job - it is a path to firm leadership.
