Job Details

City of Plano, Texas | Build. Defend. Modernize.

This isn’t a typical government role.

If you’re looking for a place where you can shape security strategy, influence architecture, and implement modern security capabilities at scale- while protecting critical public services- this is your opportunity.

The City of Plano is investing in next-generation cybersecurity, and we’re seeking a Senior Cybersecurity Engineer who wants to go beyond maintaining tools and instead design, build, and evolve security across the enterprise.

Why This Role Stands Out

  • Real impact: Protect systems that support public safety, utilities, and citizen services
  • Modern environment: Cloud, Zero Trust, identity-first security, and data protection
  • High ownership: Influence design decisions and architecture- not just operations
  • Transformation-focused: Help drive security maturity across a growing digital environment
  • Balance + purpose: Meaningful work with stability and strong work-life balance

What You’ll Lead

  • Design and implement enterprise security controls across network, cloud, endpoint, and identity domains
  • Lead initiatives aligned to Secure Service Edge (SSE) / Zero Trust architectures
  • Strengthen endpoint and threat detection capabilities across the environment
  • Enhance network security posture, including segmentation and secure access strategies
  • Improve email and collaboration security to defend against evolving threats
  • Develop and implement data protection strategies (classification, encryption, loss prevention)
  • Advance Identity & Access Management (IAM) capabilities (MFA, SSO, least privilege, privileged access)
  • Partner across IT and business teams to embed security-by-design into systems and projects
  • Contribute to incident response, threat mitigation, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Knowledge of AI frameworks and security guardrails.

What You Bring

  • Strong hands-on experience across:
  • Network security and firewalls
  • Secure access / SSE / SASE architectures
  • Endpoint security and threat detection
  • Email security
  • Data protection and governance
  • Identity & Access Management (IAM)
  • Experience working in cloud and hybrid environments
  • Solid understanding of frameworks such as NIST and Zero Trust principles
  • An owner and builder mindset- someone who wants to design, improve, and modernize, not just maintain

Bonus Points

  • Experience implementing modern security architectures at scale
  • Exposure to automation, scripting, or security orchestration
  • Experience in public sector or regulated environments
  • Knowledge of Governance Risk Compliance, frameworks such as NIST CSF2.0, 800-53

Why Plano?

  • A forward-looking city investing in technology and cybersecurity modernization
  • Opportunity to work on high-visibility, mission-critical initiatives
  • Collaborative environment with strong leadership support
  • Competitive compensation, excellent benefits, and long-term stability
  • A chance to make a tangible impact on your community

If you are passionate about staying ahead of evolving cyber threats, driving strategic security initiatives, and making a meaningful impact through technology, we invite you to bring your expertise to our team.
